I finally got off my butt and made this page a bit smarter to help folks out (and save me work.) Now when you go to go buy genes on the RGS page you flat out can not select a gene slot if it will overwrite a fantasy or licensed gene. This won't stop people who put both copies on the same strand but should stop about half of the gene overwrite issues I deal with.

In the rare case you actually want to overwrite a closed or liscened gene just let me know and I can remove it for you before the purchase is made.

If you remove the gene before we try to overwrite it, would we lose the license that went with it?

Asking because when I do gene dump horses, I literally just buy the gene to have the license and overwrite until I have all of the licenses..

@KhaosAcres, I'm just curious, but why do you overwrite each gene you've purchased? Why not put them each on a different horse and sell the ones you don't want to other players who have the licenses?

The gene is not the license. They are different things. Removing a gene does not remove a license. I agree with Clynn though. You are shooting yourself in the foot for no reason doing that.

This reminds me of something I was thinking about before but I don't know if it would be possible or something you would want to do, but what if there was also a "license only" purchase option that was slightly cheaper? You wouldn't get to customize your own dream stud or anything like that or bring the gene into the new era but maybe it's just a license you want to have because it's prevented you from buying certain lines in the past and you don't especially want to start your own line of it?

If I'm being honest, I barely have time to do much of anything on the game unless it's in the middle of the night. So it's just easier for me to overwrite the genes instead of putting it on a horse and waiting for someone to pick it up. The money I spend on the game is solely from what I make with my business (which is more of a hobby) so it's not coming from money that would be used in everyday living
