How Many Lines Do You Have?
-
It's hard not to get carried away with all of the beautiful options this game has, so I'm curious how many breeding projects everyone has :D
How many is too many? What have you found to be a good strategy to balance your breeding programs?
I keep wanting to make new studs (especially with all of the sales and events going on) but I know at some point I don't have the resources to maintain all of these projects.ID: 247225

I have a hom DP red-based line that started as just white spotted black livers, grew to include cream (I'm really into hom DP cremellos that throw color consistently), and now I'm introducing more dun and DFP2 into those lines with my new foundation stud. So it's still one line, but it's a lot wider than it started. I try to breed for tall horses in that line, but that's a secondary requirement.
I also have a silver black chinchilla line, but it definitely plays second fiddle to my red-based line.
I just started bootstrapping, and I have no color rules there yet.Formerly OscarWildin

Oh good to hear. I tend to prefer studs that are het for a lot of genes so that they throw more variety, rather than ones that consistently give the same results (colour-wise). It seems like 3 is a pretty solid starting place.ID: 247225

I breed for BlueRoan Appaloosa's , Black Livers and a Fantasy line which includes Phantom DMSP, Apples, and Puddles as well as a Collectable line which is also BlueRoan Appie
-
I have one Appy line, that is Lp Lp only ... (no KiT genes) It has snowflake and halo and now the Appy spot regulator
I have a separate line that has all the KiT genes (my Chrome Line)
I just combined my splash M and Mushroom DFP1/DFP2 and Satin Chrome line together and added Platinum, Onyx, Chocolate, and Chinchilla to it
And kept my Appy satin line, which is like my Appy line but added Satin to it
I have a few other genes that wander over the lines ... Snow/Sun, GP, rab, ectra -
Three lines for me- Hom sooty hom DPs with satin, Chinchillas, and a free-for-all fantasy line :)Player ID #250257, She/Her

I have 4 lines now.
My primary line is my Hom DP Mushroom line (mostly with satin and Kit genes).
Silver black Chinchilla/silver grullo line.
Fantasy line (I own every license so as many genes as I can get onto a horse is the goal).
And my brand new Hom DP/Satin Platinum line.
I also have a high PT show horse project but don’t count that as one of my original lines. :) -
I have one line, whatever looks pretty :))
So, I tried to have separate lines. I tried having a KP line, a Splash M line, a Rainbow Riot line and Bay Dun line. It is now all one big line. Whatever I like I keep :))
Mostly I keep Hom DP, with a few fantasy genes (mostly inkspot) with phantom genes and tobiano. -
I love satins and I love liver chestnut, the darker the better. sometimes they mix.
I am also toying with chocolate and mushrooms but I wouldn't call it a line -
I now have 4 main lines:
- Mushroom with DP and Satin primarily as well as a few fantasy genes and height regulator
- Chinchilla with fantasy genes and satin
- Axiom with other fantasy genes
- Platinum with DP, S+, P+, Satin, Gray/Gray reduction and GP
I also have 2 mini side lines:
- Draft Thunderstruck, Wrong Warp, and Ice 19
- Draft Satin, DP, DFP1, etcBluegrass Server: HayesStable - 221755

Thank you everyone for the responses, it sounds like most people are comfortable at around 3-4 lines, with some having a few more and some a few less. This is helping me curb my enthusiasm for starting a new breeding project every other day :))ID: 247225

I have:
Tobiano Appaloosa RH
W8 Draft
Classic Champagne RH with reverse dapples
Gray Black RH
Shaved Ice(my newest line)
And Bootstrapping, which isn't really a line so much as a regular supply of good show horses with any mix of colors and fantasy genes. I also want to have an Axiom line with all of the Axiom genes, but I'm still working on that one. I'm still working on paring down my Bootstrap herd to a more reasonable and manageable size...I have way too many Bootstrap mares! -
I have
(F) frozen galaxy-nexus/satin line which will also be getting warp in it
(L) Fractured light- hom ax line
(S) Shatter skull- a non-ax fantasy grab bag

I've got one main Warmblood line, which is now starting gen 5:
Liver/liver dun with DFP1/2 and ASR1 sprinkled in, lots of chrome. Sabino, W3, Tobi, KP etc
Secondary, smaller Warmblood lines:
Rainbow ink/toner/nacre/watercolor (probably getting a revamp this year. The colors started getting muddy into gen 3 and 4, so I'm deciding not to breed superior, just SBA. I want to focus more on super bright rainbows, and not be too strict on them, I have enough super strict lines as is :)) )
Dun With DFP1/2 (which is just an off shoot of the liver line from whenever I get the odd grullo or non liver duns. I do cross this line back into the livers)
Hobby lines, not worried about high gens, just enjoying pretty ponies:
Phantom/Ice (basically two merged lines)
Chinchilla, silver black and chocolate
Draft lines:
Satin pomegranate (my only fully private and boosted lines, super strict breeding, they are my pride and joy lol)
Grey with GR
Platinum "ghost" ponies -
I don't have any lines. Sire lines is where it matters for me. Every sire line that traces back to the founding sire must have that particular stallion's LE if there was one.
For example, I had a foundation stallion with watercolor etc some time ago. His male descendants that I used as sires had to have watercolor, etc. That's a sire line for me. So, he was my first watercolor sire line. The boys were free to have whatever other genes, as long as they were StySty.
Now my lines all must have StySty, one copy of any dun type gene, at least one copy of DP, and at least one copy of Lp. That's the bare minimum. Of course, they all must test superior to their parents.
