Looking for advice
-
I have been playing for 2 RL years. I am just now to the point to be able to comp test mares, I have been testing stallions for a few months. My question is when do you if at all keep about as good as mares?
I am concerned about mare lag in future generations. How have you found your way around this?
ETA: I only breed even lined ponies.
Thank you all in advance!Post edited by Tzano at 2022-07-16 07:39:30 -
I never keep AGAs as breeding stock. If they have the right PT range I want for their respective generations, I keep as show stock after spaying. The AGA rejects are spayed and go to auction.
-
Thank you so much just comped all older stock in pastures made way for superior foals!
-
I toss my AGA in the auction to "make back" some of the testing monies, after i have neutered them.
-
Thank you, I will need to keep some to keep my show barns full. Unless someone can find a easy way, to figure out the best show ponies in the barn.Post edited by Tzano at 2022-07-16 14:40:34

Try to keep the 10.whatevers, generally they level off in better places than the 11.whatevers I also hang onto 12 and up :)
-
Thank you so much! I do try and keep all my G2 and usually sell G3-G4 I keep all G5 but am going to sort by pt now! ;)
-
I just keep my showing stock until they age out.

I would mark the aga part in their name and keep some of them to begin with, but once I got enough superior mares I would snip the aga girls and toss them in a barn.
What I recently did to make sure my mare’s were on par with my stallions was I comp tested my suds until I found several of the same quality, that I would consider benchmark quality. Then I gender swapped one of those boys into a mare, then did all comparisons testing of mares in that generation against that horse. Then I knew my quality was as close to even as I could possibly make it. It was spendy to begin with, but so worth it.Thanked by 1ChateauAlbere -
Silverstar, I like your method. I actually understand it, thank you for sharing.

I personally do not allow ANY "about as good as" mares or studs to stay intact. It does not matter to me if I end up snipping all of a new generation in a particular month. Keeping the ones that test AAGA bring down the quality of my lines. I only keep and breed superior foals. Anything else goes to my show herd. There are several months where I will only get like, 1 or 2 intact foals, if any, for a higher generation and that is perfectly okay with me :)Bluegrass Server: HayesStable - 221755

I have tested everything in pastures! Only kept superior! (That was pricey :( )
Now I have another question, I am starting on my 6th generation and do not have a superior colt, I do however have a very nice filly I could gender swap to a colt. I am unsure if she would test superior to sir if I was to do so. Any chance she would not test superior? -
It is just like any other test ; are the parents both the same"paper" level? as well as generation level? If so its a better shot at her testing SUP ; if not I wouldn't even try ; you can always buy straws until you get a colt that good enough :)
-
This is her and she is the best pony according to PT and papers so far!

I think buying some straws may be what I need.Post edited by Tzano at 2022-07-18 08:38:24 -
This is my high pt mare

Don't forget PT has nothing to do with Breedability please :) Looks like you could use straws from Satin and/or Liver boys :) Feel free to look through my barns / Pastures for something that would work :)
-
@annismyrph I sent you a PM. You have some great stuff in there, thanks for letting me snoop. I can not wait to have a few larger pastures ;)Post edited by Tzano at 2022-07-18 10:39:21

If she passed SBA and tested superior to her dam, there's a pretty good chance that she'll test superior to her sire as well, or at least AGA.
Both of her parents have similar AFPT, so I'm guessing their breeding ability must be pretty comparable. Her dam might even be slightly better.Post edited by MackZ at 2022-07-18 13:08:18
