How Big a Deal Is Even Breeding?
-
I see a lot of people specify even breeding when looking for horses or straws/eggs, so I guess there is a certain benefit. Is it that a higher number of horses pass BA?
I've been looking through my horses and found that I have some evenly-bred G2 and G3 that happened by accident, and I am wondering if I should breed evenly by intent from now on. My Nexus line is full of uneven breeding, and I am considering using an unevenly bred foal to introduce Tiger Eye into my lines, as starting over from foundations seems a lot of work at this point.
I breed for color and put all my foals through BA but seldom do papers or performance testing.
On the plus side, going through my horses helped me get around to spelding some, and I might have some that I will put up for breeding next season.Post edited by Treble at 2022-08-29 07:08:10Game number 273531

Even ABILITY can get you more intact foals just because if you have one horse who is much weaker it is harder to get foals that compare well to both parents.
The code has no way of knowing the number of generations on the pedigree and it does not care about breeding even generations.
If you are happy with what you are getting keep on keeping on. Some people really want the best possible foals so it is important to them. Ignore even breeding if it does not serve your goals.Post edited by Ammit at 2022-08-29 07:34:09Need to contact me? Read this first.

I don't think is any general benefit for even breeding, simply a common goal of many players, so just their personal preference. Obviously no requirement to do so, breed how you wish!
I prefer even breeding as it gives me a way to track improvement and set goals. Breeding mixed generations is just no challenge and gives me nothing to work towards. So I breed even generations as a limiting factor, still also having my colour goals. Plus I find quality is just so much easier to track with even generations, I like the breeding up from foundations as each new era starts, and getting to high Gold/Stars with their even pedigree.
I do have some high PT horses from many old lines that's completely mixed pedigree, but they have anyways simply been bred for the highest PT's, and not much elsePost edited by Kintara at 2022-08-29 15:51:45Thanked by 1annismyrph -
I second Kintara. I’ll personally only breed/buy even pedigrees and always have after a decade of playing. But if you are having fun and enjoy your foals, that’s what matters. :)
My show lines though? I breed for higher PTs so I’m not focused on their pedigrees. -
Really your horses only have to please you, so do whatever you like! I primarily use even lines because I like to watch the progress over generations and I like the nice neat pedigrees, but I keep a bootstrap herd for show horses which is pretty much anything goes. Selling to other players is a relatively small part of the game experience, so your tastes are all that really matter in your herdStarstruck2 on Bluegrass and Forest

I get a kick out of watching how my tastes have changed within the goals I set for myself. I have 3 accounts that have made it to gen 6 or higher. And none of them look the same as my current gen 2. I breed even purely because I get the best looking foals at gen 3 and 4 when I buy genes. Otherwise, I would bootstrap everything.

This is one of the (many) great things about this game. There is no right or wrong way to play so everyone can set their own goals and play the way they want to. Personally, I breed even generations because I like to keep everything tidy. I just don't like looking at an uneven pedigree! :)
Have fun - that's the main thing. -
Like many players here, I also do both: even lines and bootstrapping. My even lines are stricter and have specific goals, while my bootstrap herd produces the majority of my show herd and includes any and all genes it can. I enjoy the variety from my bootstrap herd, but I also like seeing the gradual progress of my even lines. I love how this game allows for such a wide range of players' preferences.

I started boot strapping when I first started had no idea what what I was doing. So when I decided to do even breeding, I snipped all of my bootstrap lines. They really gave me a daily boost. I have found myself in a bit of a slump with my even lines. So I have started looking for some bootstrap horses to bring that back to my barn. With that being said I myself find it very important to keep my even lines separate from my bootstrap group!

To be clear bootstrapping and just breeding unevenly are very different things.Need to contact me? Read this first.
