nd1 variations?

I don't have much nd1 in my herd, and I'm not very familiar with its variations.
I just bred this (sadly gelded) little dude:

I was wondering what made him so "grulla" + dapples looking, so I went searching for other similar gene'd horses. I noticed a lot of variation in phenotype from similar genes.
These 3 are all DP/DP, Sty/Sty, /nd1, p/p. Does the nd1 gene just inherently have a lot of variation?

The nd-1 is involved, but it might also be the pearl. It does make teeny changes when it is het, I think.
I LOVE the ones you call 'bay' liver! I have a bunch on the Forest server.

I had no idea pearl did anything when it was het!
Maybe I'll have to start a line with some nd1 in it to experiment with these differences I see. -
nd1 has no difference when het or hom. and has a wide range of variations.Need to contact me? Read this first.
