Removing which gene will take away the most white?
-
I've gotten rid of all the white on one set of genes, but she's still got too much white for my liking. Should I take off SB1, SW1, or SW2 for the biggest effect?

I'd reduce the white factor on the second strand.

I believe Ammit has said in the past that white factor doesn't affect the visual presentation of the horse at all. Just from my own experience that seems to be the case, as I've had horses with tiny white spots and Extensive white factor, or horses that are completely visually white but have Minimal white factor.
For example: this horse has Minimal white factor.

And this horse has Extensive white factor.

I ask this question a lot!

This is not true at all! WF boosts pinto markings. A w1/w20 horse can not be compared to a W20/- horse.Post edited by Ammit at 2022-09-24 16:37:40Need to contact me? Read this first.

The white on the original horse is appaloosa. Remove PATN1 if you want to reduce the size of an appy blanket. WF only changes pinto markings not appy markings.Need to contact me? Read this first.

Thank you for the clarification Ammit. :) Perhaps I saw you post that WF doesn't affect appy markings and got confused.

Here is a bunch of het w1 horses. You can compare different white factors and see how it boosts the white.

Not to barge in but could the white factor be why no matter how many times I've rerolled, his w3 stayed the same? (I was trying to get the w3 stripes I often see)

@BarnRaised, I did a lot of searches comparing expressions of W3 when I decided to add it to my first GMT project, because I really liked those stripes as well. White factor does increase W3, but I found that more importantly, I liked it best when combined with W20. I see you already have sabino 2 on that horse though, but just to illustrate, here are two searches of offspring out of that GMT project. All have W3, but this search is without W20:
https://www.huntandjump.com/adv_search.php?runsearch=go&jump=0&hpp=100&aged=1&sire=13186889&30=1&56=0&57=0&58=0&59=0&60=0&61=0&77=2
And this search is W3 with W20:
https://www.huntandjump.com/adv_search.php?runsearch=go&jump=0&hpp=100&aged=1&sire=13186889&30=1&56=0&57=0&58=0&59=0&60=0&61=0&77=1
I would say without W20, you'd need at least a medium white factor to get some light striping. Like this horse:

Thanks so much for the info, I'm actually saving up to gmt a hom W20 frame foundation stallion to mimic my stud. This helps a lot, think I might cross those lines in the future then.
