I wish I knew what I was doing wrong
-
So I have a few favorite mares and carefully chose stallions to breed them to, trying to stay close generationally, papers and even PT. I even repeated a couple successful pairings. but no dice. All neutered. All mares have a full pasture bonus, everyone is SBA. Anyone care to point out what I'm doing wrong?
thank you in advance

Pastures dont open until either the 5th ( if you are a game supporter ) or the7th ( if you are a regular player ) the mares can't have full pasture bonus unless you Breed them In pasture. If you pull them out and live cover it doesnt count as "Pasture bonus". If you AI cover the mares get "I think" a 15 day bonus. if you "live " cover in the barns its just a live cover ; no bonus >< . Hope this helps for the future.

ooo ooh bummer!!!! thanks.

It's all about increasing your chances. Most horses will be born to be show horses. I breed 100 mare pastures and walk away with maybe 5 horses I keep intact.
An example in my barns
3 B foundation stallions in a 100 mare (all foundation reds). Because they are foundation exceptinal producers, their breeding quality all match. About 40 to 45% pass SBA. As your generations get higher, there is more variance in breeding quality (not all 2nd gen red papers are exactly the same) which affects foals passing SBA.
Some of it is also chance. I can try a breeding cross in the AI lab 10 times and not get a passing foal. The next year, the same cross could get me 5 passing foals. I breed a lot, which gets me more passing foals.
Keep your show ponies, let them make you money so you can buy more barns and breed more babies.Thanked by 1Fiddler -
@humboldt, thank you so much for your wise words. it is apparent that you can't stay small and get very far, which I find frustrating. I do keep many spelded horses, they're definitely the majority in my barns.. I don't want to buy a bunch of big pastures, I want to stay as small as I can for the simple reason that the more there are the easier it is to lose track.
what you said makes a lot of sense, there is a learning curve, and bit by bit I'm getting it, especially thanks to people like youPost edited by Fiddler at 2022-11-04 07:07:50 -
You are already a very large barn. You have no need to grow any bigger to be successful. I think it may just be more of an issue of your expectations.Post edited by Ammit at 2022-11-04 07:35:19Need to contact me? Read this first.

@ammit, yes probably!

for what it's worth, just so you all know I'm not just a whiner, I'm happy to announce that pasture breeding has gone ok for me, and I.even got a couple really nice babies that passed SBA.
One A rated stallion did poorly with mares who were blue, but much better with My red mares. I don't understand but I'm learning.
While visiting family who sleep at more normal times, long before dawn in my dark bedroom, I bred most of my mares waiting for 7am to arrive . -
if the Red Mares were in pasture , they may have given that bonus to the foals. I find alot of my 2g red mare / A stud crosses work well if the mares are left alone in the good green grass of their pixel pastures lolPost edited by annismyrph at 2022-11-06 15:02:23
