well that was disappointing! Only one of my satins passed SBA so I picked a pretty ( who didn't pass) filly with some nice genes and maxed her out. ouch. This is the first time this has happened.

  • I think because her parents' breeding abilities aren't even, it just wasn't possible for her to be better than her sire, because her dam's breeding ability couldn't throw a foal that high. So even though she was maxed out, it still wasn't high enough to compare good enough to her sire to pass SBA.
  • It means her parents can never and will never produce a horse that can pas SBA. Not uncommon if you are breeding that unevenly.

  • I separated my 20 odd satin mares into 4 categories, reds, low blues, high blues and golds.
this was the high blue group, which I bred to a low Star stallion.
I haven't had much luck with satin. doing much better with silvers, livers and snows.. i didn't think they were THAT different.

  • The mare in question is a 3g ; the stud a 6g, even though the computer can't "count" generations , there is still a signifcant difference in quality, its one of the reasons a lot of player go for "even" bred lines ; not just because the pedigree looks pretty, but also the "level" of the papers are closer together.

That does not matter at all! It is important for everyone to drill in that the number of generations is totally irrelevant and meaningless in this case.

not just because the pedigree looks pretty, but also the "level" of the papers are closer together.

This also is bad information. The number of generations does not make breeding quality closer together. A 20th gen stallion can be lower than a foundation mare. Breeding even can give you a helping hand in keeping your mare and stallion quality equivalent because it makes it easier to cull your foals. Keeping generations even does not by its self magically make horses more alike in quality.

  • @Fiddler that mare is a very low blue not a high blue. Your sorting categories may have issues. You did the right thing trying to breed high blues and low stars together. You just messed up in your testing to find out if she was a high or low blue.

  • @ammit thanks so much for more clarity. So at this level, are you suggesting I do more comparison testing?

  • Yes, you can also look at AFPT. That can also give you some insight into how two mares compare, though comparison testing is more accurate.
