I feel like I'm drowning (which is ironic)
-
Oh my god you guys. So I have been sick for almost a week. I had a 106 fever, and I am coughing so much that I havent slept past 3.30 since monday. Case in point, it is 3.39 here right now, and I have been up for 1.5 hrs already. I have just realised that I will need to call the doctor again tomorrow, because it looks like I have the freakin mumps. Which I have never heard of anyone having here, ever, in my 37 years on this earth. We vaccinate later than ie. the states, which leads to it being extremely rare, even in adults. I can not find anything about an ongoing outbreak of the mumps, but I am not surprised, as we "post"(ish) covid, and I usually attract every sickness on this motherflipping planet.
Anywaysss... I was going to try to sleep on the couch, to not keep the youngest and husband awake while coughing in bed, but needed to use the bathroom first, aaaaand... no water. Now, normally, that would not be very triggering, but the waterlines into our house are veeeeery old, and we have been quoted 250 000NOK to fix them. Around $25K, that we do not have, and will not be allowed to loan, as have not been able to work more than 30% for the last year. In Norway we get 100% payed sick leave for a year, and then have to change to a benefit that gives us 60% of our normal pay for the part we do not work. So my paycheck will be significantly lower come february. So not having water right now is stressing. me. out. We also have most of our heating through our water, so we'll have keep the fireplace going to keep warm. I am hoping the fault is not on our property, but I wont find out untill tomorrow, when I can call them.
Now, just add that christmas is 8 days away, and we have all been trading illnesses with eachother for literally over a month, and I am not done shopping for gifts. Have not bought any of the food. The house looks aweful. The only decorations we have up is curtains and stars in the windows.
It might be the sleep deprivation, but I am so so so sad right now. So freaking sad. I love christmas, but everything is off, and nothing is right, and I dont know what to do, and I feel like I am drowning (which I know is ironic, considering we have no water).
Sorry for the long winded negativity. I really needed a vent.ID 195859 -
Whenever I'm sick, night time always seems to make it worse. How big is your fireplace?
-
Take a deep breathe ; take it one minute at a time ; do you have any bottled water? Do you have wood for the fireplace? venting is always the best place to start; then organize your thoughts , and start putting plans in place; even if you cant do anything for hours ; if the plan is in place you can start checking off the boxes; first warmth in the winter ; second water , whether bottled or tap ; third dedal with the Doctor. and so on down the list ; breathe momma , you got this :)
-
I so appreciate you guys :x It means the world to me to have someone to talk to.
@bluechrystals Uhm, I dont know. Not big by american standards I think :P It's not really a fireplace either, I just dont know if you have a different word for it, like us. It is more of a closed oven, and clean burning, so it gives off amazing warmth. It's like the one good thing about this house. Well, that, and how close it is to everything.
@anismyrph Yeah, we have firewood, and drinking water, from the last time our water was gone. It's gone a few hours maybe a couple of times a year, so that is probably the reason now too. We live like half way up a steep mountain, so it doesnt take much for our pressure to disappear. Which is probably the reason now too, but I cant find out untill 4ish hours from now, and I am just freaking out. I have been saying to my husband that I feel our water pressure have been even worse than before these last few days, and he has been saying I am imagining things.ID 195859 -
Is it enclosed with clay or mortar? If so I do know of them...but can't remember what they're called ;)
-
It'd brick, actually. Or like, a brick wall, with an insert in steel, lined with soapstone. It takes some time to get warm, but when it is, it will warm for hours after its gone out. These days that I have been sick it hasnt even gotten the time to go completely cold before we light it again.ID 195859

Wood always heats so nicely. Growing up we had a wood stove. Didn't enjoy cutting the wood, but it sure kept the winter weather away. I have a stove now that will be getting hooked up next year. I've had it for a bit. :)) I've had a few things change personally and a lot of things have changed at/in my house because of it. (*)
-
We buy ours already cut, thank goodness. My body does not play well with that kind of work anymore, old lady that I am (physically, not by age) :)) We will probably have to buy more wood this year though, as we have spent half of what we had already. It's been cold, and we have been sick and at home more often.ID 195859

Sounds like a masonry stove? I've wanted to put in one of those for years. I've thought it would be awesome in a greenhouse. We do all our heat with wood as well, been doing that for years. And we cut it all ourselves. We also went without water in the house for over a year a while back, when our well pump finally broke, and we just hauled it by hand from the lake and filtered it in a homemade filter. We would have gone on that way except my aunt came to visit and helped us haul water just once and was so winded she said we couldn't go on like that, and she called people to have it fixed the same day! It'll go fine, just go one day at a time and you'll get it sorted out. :)

My dad has a guy he buys slab Wood from, then it just needs cut to length. He has a band saw he uses to do that. I will probably do the same myself. Definitely not doing the maul and axe like I used to do growing up! [-(
-
Oh lordy you guys. I didnt even consider that it is so freakin cold out. The pipes are probably frozen 8-| We have some heat on them now, and will be calling a plumber as soon as their normal business hours come round in 10 minutes. Major facepalm moment here. Did I mention how sleep deprived I am?ID 195859
-
Here's hoping no pipes need replaced! May you get some sleep soon!

I have no advice, but can commiserate. My house was built in 1890, and last month the bathroom foundation caved in, which cost a lot, and required the whole bathroom to be redone (still in the works). Then this month, my heating completely went out and had to be replaced. So it's been annoying living with contractors.
As cheesy as it sounds, just remember that decorations DO NOT make the holiday. As Bear Grylls says: Improvise, Adapt, Overcome! Watch some christmas movies, read your favorite books to the kids. If you get more energy, do some baking. You can find the spirit without expending all the typical energy. -
You guys are the best. I had to go to a doctors appointment earlier. I do NOT have the mumps, thankfully, just a raving bronchitis, and possible asthma. But my neck is still hurting and getting more swollen, so thats fun. I came out sporting some pretty sexy inhalers, though :)) >:)
And the best news was when I got there I got a text from hubby saying the water was back, and we didn't even have to pay for a plumber. They were thankfully just frozen.
And I know chirtsmas comes with or without decorations, but I'm autistic, and if things are not the way they are supposed to be, they take up soooo much room in my mind. Like I just cant not think about the mail by my foot, or the decorations, or wrapping gifts, or all the things I need to buy, or cleaning pretty much every surface in this house, because everyone has been sick for so long. Aaaaallll the tasks I know "need" to be done are constantly yelling at me to do them, every waking second of the day. Which is why I usually try to stay on top of most chores, so I can actually think about the things I like to think about. But right now I have 55 to do items on my regular chorelist, and aaaaaaall the christmas stuff on top.ID 195859 -
I've got a saying that helps me *sometimes*...when I can calm down enough to pay attention to myself.
How do you eat an elephant?
One bite at a time. ;)
May take a bit longer than you'd like, but you've got this, @Maribo! -
You are more than welcome. @};-

I'm so sorry that you've been having such a tough time. Praying that things will continue to improve, even if it's only slowly. >:D< >:D< >:D<

You guys are the best. I have to say, it's incredible how much brighter the world is when you have actually slept. The inhalers helped me soo much, and the baby was not feeling too well either, which meant we all slept untill 8.30. Now he is better, I am coughing less, and I atually got alittle housework done too. Not much, but helluva lot better than the day before :)ID 195859
