Seeking guidance regarding paypal *answered*
-
I've seen a lot of apps/stores/ect. use primarily or exclusively PayPal, but I've also heard a lot of stories of people getting hacked/scammed/ect. and losing mass amount of funds because of PayPal.... should I get it or no? What are the pros and cons that I need to consider?Post edited by Xzeina at 2023-01-06 12:42:30

In my many years of using Paypal, I have only gotten one sketchy money request. I have never had a problem with using cards or security breach.

*knock on wood* I have never had a problem with Paypal. I've had a time or two some weird charges popped up, emailed about them and it was taken care of promptly. I love that they offer the payment plans now. That's what gets me in trouble. Haha.

I've never had trouble with paypal. I use it for work and even before I used it for years as a safe way to pay for things online. I've never had any weird charges and it's always convenient to use and fast to receive and move money where it needs to be to pay bills.

No one has ever been hacked because of Paypal. People get phished because they are bad at personal security and use the same passwords in lots of places. Paypal has excellent security history, but they can't protect people from their own bad security practices.Need to contact me? Read this first.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

So, my husband's PayPal was just hacked into and fraudulently charged the other day. He works in IT and makes crazy passwords. He doesn't practice any unsafe behavior on the internet, and he is compulsive about security. His account still got hacked into and they charged and stole his card number and closed his account when they were done so he would have trouble contesting it. Thankfully, we caught it that day and canceled the cards, but now we are wary of using PayPal. In addition to this PayPal was extremely unhelpful, likely because it's difficult to help a closed account, but we did eventually get our money back. I'm not saying don't use PayPal, because I understand many have little choice. I am saying always be aware of what information you give to a third party. If you end up opening one, make sure you check it often in case a hack does happen. My husband is proof that it can happen to anyone, just like getting pick pocketed off the street.Post edited by Soliloquy at 2023-01-11 04:16:32
