Question about RL horse showing...
  • I'm starting to become more interested in showing in the game and I happened to wonder, does the real life horse showing world have any inherited merits? Like in goat showing, does and bucks can inherit milking merits from their dam's milk and udder titles and it can be cumulative across generations. Like a goat with a 5*M merit is of a line that has been all champion milkers for five generations. And sires and dams can even earn merits from the wins of their offspring. Is there anything like that in horse showing, I mean, beyond just reputation?
  • Yes . In the Arabian world, for example, there are lines that have really great cow handling abilities, and of course, there are good race horses...

  • But do champion titles actually give the offspring a merit on their registration papers, I mean?
  • I know of no horse associations where titles are inherited from the parents.

  • Not in any breed/discipline I'm aware of! It's all about what that horse has done themselves (at least in regards to formal merit, of course many people may confer reputation based on a particular horse's lineage).

  • I show APHA and its 100% the stallions offspring that have to show to earn points or awards for that said foal . However if the foal is registered and eligible to show futurity and show the appointed apha shows then that sires foals that compete and win help that sire on a ranking competing with other stallions and they do earn some things from there offspring winning. I do not know what or how much they win on the stallion rankings without asking the stallion owner. I tried to provide a link but apha i have to be logged in to see stallion standings .
Note stallions dont have to compete to be on the stallion rankings. Its purely by what its offspring does in the show pen.

It accounts for how many foals the stallion has and which dicipline those offspring win in and its tallied up by that stallions offsprings winnings. Like my mares sire never made it to show outside of lungeline as a yearling due to an injury so he didnt have much to prove himself till he had foals in the show pen winning in multiple diciplines. Each year he made top 3 on the ranking list.
Although he didnt get the chance to prove himself other than longe line he sure does pass on some really nice qualities to his offspring. We have 4 show horses in my trainers barn by this stud . 1 incliding mine.

But no horse inherits merits from there parents that i am aware of.

  • No titles or merits are passed to foals in the Morgan breed. There is a Broodmare Hall of Fame, which includes mares that have produced 3 or more World Champion titled offspring. They earn BHOF after their name in the database. Stallions are also more notable for the World Champions they produce.

  • Thanks, everybody! That's very interesting. :)

@lecobb8 Yes! I've got three crazy dairy goats in the house now, bottle babies that came early. My goats are all Nigerian Dwarf, I've never had an Oberhasli, though I had a Nubian once. The minis are so much easier for me to handle. :P
