Question about eggs?
-
Hello! This coming season is my first being able to use eggs and I'm wondering how they work; do you collect them just like straws? Is it like an embryo where I can collect them and then still breed them later?
Or do you collect them and then however many eggs you get counts as the breeding that season?
Thank you! -
A single egg can be collected every 5 days. You can store as many as you'd like or use them. Collecting a single egg does not count a mare as bred. You can do this continuously, every 5 days.
You could flush your mare instead. Flushing gets 8 to 14 eggs at a single time, and they are marked as bred for the season.
With new mares, I usually collect single eggs a few times during the month, then flush towards the end. I do this to maximize my yield on eggs.
Eggs can then be combined with straws for embryos, then implanted into other unbred mares (I used pointed foundations in my barn for this so they also earn hbs)Thanked by 1kgstable -
@Humboldt thank you! So if you collect an egg every 5 days do you still get 8-14 eggs if you flush?
-
Yes, you just also have to wait 5 days from the last egg pull to flush.

Thank you!
