Chinchilla color confusion
  • I thought adding silver to this guy would make him all "dappely". Where did I go wrong?

Here's what I started with (not sure why my image link isn't working, trying to fix it):

    And here's after adding silver:

  • You can't link to a web page as an image. You need to either use just the image URL or link to the webpage (no image tag)

Also please link to the actual horse too. :)

  • Fixed it! I thought I copied the actual image address, but mucked it up somehow.
  • Not all silvers have dapples. You may have to do a bunch of paid new seeds to get them. Here are some examples of the expression range.

  • I tried what you suggested, and I think I may want to remove the silver GMT and just breed him to some silver mares? I didn't realize the shoulder barring would fade by adding silver, and I'm not crazy about the red eye.

Oh well, at least we can remove GMT's now!

  • The red eyes is a result of the Chinchilla gene, not the silver.

  • I believe you could make a more prominent shoulder bar by rerolling the image some more, or adding DPF1 or a second copy of DPF2.

  • You could also look to add Tiger Eye to counter the red eye from the chinchilla (I believe) but never looked into which eye colour would be dominant with that combination. Someone may be able to confirm.

  • Yeah, the red eye is from the chinchilla. I did a bunch of looking on the horse search a while back when I was thinking of adding tiger eye to a chinchilla horse, but it didn't seem to make any difference. I think chinchilla completely removes the pigment in the eye, so any other color that the eye might have been is turned to red.
  • The red eyes on the chinchillas always baffled me. Because if I remember correctly, and I could be totally wrong, but I thought Ammit had said Chinchilla was modeled after the gene found in rabbits. Chinchilla rabbits don't have red eyes though so I thought it was interesting that the chinchilla horses did. But like i said, I could be 100% wrong and have dreamed that whole thing :))
(I have bred/shown rabbits for well over 12 years. Started breeding in 2015, showed in 4h a long time before that).

  • Chinchilla removes red pigment. If you have no red pigment and no black pigment you get red eyes. That is true for all mammals. Our dark chinchillas in the game have dark eyes just like chinchilla "color" rabbits but I have to deal with full spectrum genetic combinations not just single colors. That would be like saying champagne horses always have green eyes while ignoring the vast range of possible eye colors they actually can have given other gene combos.
