How do you cull?
-
I know there's been a lot of topics on this... but I'm looking at culling, but I don't know where to begin...
Now everything seems valuable as a show horse I've lost my system to culling the show ponies.
I've managed to cull my breeding stock by taking out the colours I don't want to breed. I believe most of my stock is of good quality cause of how they paper etc. How else could I refine it? I see people wanting their horse to have a certain PT by a particular generation... but this scares me as I've read PT and breeding ability don't correlate?
Throw some ideas at me :P -
PT has nothing to do with the breeding quality of that horse, but has everything to do with the breeding qualiy of its parents. That's why we cull by AFPT (average foal PT), not by the horses' PTs. If that makes any sense.ID 195859

Ah okay! That makes sense :)

I don't cull, generally. I geld/spay then throw ALL the ponies in a show barn :) I will admit, however, that I run out of space constantly and have to buy more barns any chance I get....

Yeah, same here. Everything is kept for showing, and I go broke by buying moe barns.ID 195859
