Accidentally gelded #1 stallion futurity horse
-
I wasn't paying attention yesterday, and I gelded a 20 year old stallion. Today I realized he's #1 in the stallion futurity for his era.
It's possible he may roll over before the first prizes are awarded, but do I need to GMT him back to a stallion so he won't lose his status? -
It is always helpful to link the horse, but there may be no point. Just because he is number 1 now does not mean he will even be qualified in June.
To answer your question geldings can not win futurity sire awards.Need to contact me? Read this first.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

if he's still alive, why wouldn't he still be qualified in june?
-
Just because he has 10 foals under 5 with lots of points now does not mean he will in 2 months. Foals age out.Post edited by Ammit at 2023-04-19 08:00:36Need to contact me? Read this first.

His foals will be 5 in June, so I suspect he should still be qualified. But that assumes he doesn't die between now and then. I guess it would make the most sense to wait until June (or would it need to be late May?) to see if he stays kicking before I waste the GMT. -
what does foals age out mean?
-
lecobb8 that is what I would do personally. :)Need to contact me? Read this first.

@Fiddler Foals "age out" of the futurity program once they hit six years old, so they're no longer contributing points towards their sire's futurity leaderboard standings after that.
-
huh, so @clynnrose, they don't have to be futurity locked to be counted in the futurity?
-
@Fiddler Nope, that's just a safety measure to help people to not accidentally sell or auction them back to the game in the meanwhile. However, it occurred to me that individual players who are running incentives might only search for futurity locked foals when they're giving out prize money. So it might be a good idea to lock them if you don't have a ton to do.
-
@clynnrose I definitely lock all of mine! Easier to keep track
