Try out an alpha version of Pseudo-Depth in the Advanced Tack Editor
-
We are on a continuing mission to give you even greater control over your horse images. We are excited to share our alpha release of pseudo-depth.
Before:
After:
What is pseudo-depth?
Our images are flat and have no real third dimension to them but you can now "push" your horse back into the image by dragging it vertically on the canvas creating a false sense of depth. It's not real depth because you must still manually update the layering order of items
Why an alpha?
Going to be frank here, this release was a huge amount of work. We are massively over our time budget on this project and we know it still has a ways to go before it is fully releasable. That is why it currently works if you open up the advanced tack editor and play with it, but it will not work for any refreshes of the image.
If you refresh the image the horse will go back to its default size, but if you open the advanced tack editor again it will show the scaled version.
What we need from you?
Tell us what you like, what is not working, what could be improved etc. Feedback will help us get this dialed in and working smoothly.
Issues we know about.
We are aware of and currently working on addressing the horse jumping horizontally when you click on it, and some strangeness with deleting/duplicating/removing of items sometimes happening in an off fashion.
Oh also tack items now "stick" to the horse and move and scale when you move the horse around. Find an item that is behaving like tack and should not be (or the other way around) please let us know so we can adjust it.Need to contact me? Read this first.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

Yes! The main reason I have not played with the barn is everything being either behind the horse or looking really strange over top of a giant horse. But this update will get me playing around a lot more! Thank you!
-
I'm so glad to hear the tack will stick now! That was one of the reasons I wasn't doing much tacking up on my advanced tack edited horses, just backgrounds and props and stuff. Can't wait to try it out! :D

If you have a moment please try playing with this feature. We could really use some feedback. We can't make it the best working FOR YOU if we don't hear back from you on how you want this to work.
Thanks!Need to contact me? Read this first.

I played with it for just a few moments, but I had one thought. Would it be possible for depth moving to have an on and off toggle? Sometimes I just want to scootch a horse up slightly when I'm adding other items on the ground around them but I don't want the horse to get smaller then.

The arrow keys provided on the page or on your keyboard move the horse with out changing the size.

Awesome! Thanks, I didn't think to try that. :)

I am thinking that it may be far better to have it work by a button to scale it rather than by mouse drag. Which is a shame because that mouse drag was a HUGE amount of work.Need to contact me? Read this first.

I do like the mouse drag controls. Just sometimes the horse disappears and it took me a while to realize it was actually popping out of the frame for some reason. When it disappears now I just drag to the side until it comes back into the frame again.
-
Strange, have you seen any rhyme or reason for when it happens?Need to contact me? Read this first.

It happens most when I drag the horse as far back as possible and the horse is very small. When I go to grab the horse again, it will jump to the side. It seems like it has something to do with the scaling, like it's still moving the horse according to the original bounding box or something, but the horse is very small within that so it looks like the horse moves. It happens every time I re-grab the horse and try to move it back. When the horse is right-facing, it doesn't leave the frame, it will stop right at the edge, but when I flip the horse to left-facing, it will eventually leave the frame. The jump is also greater the farther right the horse is, so when the horse is near the left edge, the jump is very small, but by the time the horse is near the right edge, it's jumping way out of the frame.
I took a video but I'm not sure what's the best way to share it.
Edit: I messaged the video to you on discord. I hope that works and it can help.Post edited by Cavalynn at 2023-04-24 10:43:35 -

I tried to push my horse way back, but then it was floating. I couldn't get it to stay small, far away and be on the ground. I will assume this works better for people that have the barns packs

Nothing to do with the barn tack packs.Need to contact me? Read this first.

I wanted it to be smaller, hmm I'll try that
-
@Fiddler You can move it all the way back with the mouse drag to make it small and then move it back down with the arrow keys and it will stay small and you can place it on the ground.
-
it says: Move tack forward and backwards using the plus and minus icons.
i don't see plus or minus icons -

I don't see any plus or minus icons either, and the keyboard plus and minus keys don't move items forward or backward either. Or maybe if I had a number pad it would? But the "move forward" and "move backwards" buttons there control the layering.

Tack items sticking to the horse is exactly the update I’ve been waiting for!
(Well, whenever I have the time to play with tack again lol)
Thank you, Ammit!
