that horse is 18hands high , lol. you need to get the new Tall background Pack ( Room to Grow ) its the last pack on the bottom of the IV spending page and costs 1iv ; then the horse will fit correctly

Both of the parents are 17 hands high ; so fit correctly in the background box

Where did he inherit the height from? Is that not a gene?

All horses can throw a "range" of hieghts which is why sometimes you get ponies from horse sized parents
