Gene GMT suggestions?
  • I'm figuring out what color I want my new stallion for Era 15 to be, and I'm hemming and hawing about some options.

A goal for this era is in addition to era 15 leaderboards, I was hoping to get some horses on some of the 2G boards for a few of the easier color clubs.

    My original idea was:
    Black
LP and hom snow for the little spotties
    Grey and grey reduction
    Hom pearl

Snowflake club has 11k horses, pearl has 17k, and has grey ~20k. Not the lowest population clubs, but more attainable than many of the others.

I prefer black to black pearl, but can't quite decide if going for the leaderboard is worth the slightly less appealing color?

I really like breeding lined chimeras, so I started with Dancing Queen, and hoped to be able to gather enough GMT's to do both a stallion and mare (to pull eggs from). However, the stallion is kinda ugly right now with his stripes, and I don't think I can afford to do both strands. Should I just scrap the chimera idea and stick with a normal horse?

Here's the stud, with grey and snow, no pearl. Other strand came with silver.

Here's my test mare (single DNA strand) with grey, pearl and snow. I did appreciate the hom pearl with grey much more than without it.

  • I think a gray black pearl with gray reduction and snowflake sounds beautiful! That's almost exactly like something I was considering doing as well. Gray pearl is starting to look even better to me than gray champagne because I love classic champagne best, but for some reason that metallic sheen just isn't as good on gray classic champagnes as it is on gray gold champagnes. The gray pearls get that wonderful sheen and stay nice and dark. That color combo sounds like a beautiful idea to me.

Personally, I avoid chimeras for GMT projects because of the extra tokens it takes, unless I mean to do mostly RGS edits since those will go on both strands for the same amount of money, or my whole idea is to have two particular different coat colors mixed. You can also change the inheritance of once strand and just edit that one, so you still have a chimera but save on the GMTs.

About the color clubs, I started doing the same thing after the clubs were all updated a while ago, aiming for the ones with smaller populations thinking that they would be less competitive. But then I started thinking, it doesn't necessarily mean that they will be easier to win, and just because there are more horses in another club doesn't necessarily mean it will be harder to compete there. A few months ago I actually accidentally won awards for 2G points earned in a couple of clubs I wasn't even paying attention to. So I think it's more important to look at how good are the best horses in each category for the club you want to aim for rather than how many horses there are total. Sometimes I think the rarer colors that were probably GMTed on might also be being bred by players who intended to aim for the leaderboards of those color clubs.
  • If you really like black better than black pearl, than maybe you want to do that. Personally, I've noticed I really need to like the color of my line otherwise I'm not motivated enough to breed them well enough to get them on the leaderboards. I often skipped breeding my platinum line altogether because platinum and DP were the only fancy genes they had and I just wasn't that excited about what I was getting. If you want you can always have another line that's purely for the challenge of climbing the leaderboards and just not worry about spending too much GMTs on color edits, just enough to get them eligible for the clubs you want to go for.
  • I didn't know that paying real money would put the gene on both strands of a chimera! I don't have hardly any extra money this month, but I was considering coughing up the $10 for two copies of pearl.

You mentioned on my other post that limiting the chimera passing on only one strand of genes doesn't change his potential to throw slightly more chimeras than a normal horse. So maybe I'll stick with him, pay for pearl in real money and just try to reroll until I get a splotchy look instead of the stripey look.

I can see where you're coming from with the leaderboard theories. I've been playing for a few years now, but only just starting to contemplate the leaderboards.
