Very Inconsistent!
-
I just saw a filly for sale which was "very inconsistent"
I didn't know that was a thing! -
You actually have a horse that's very inconsistent. I noticed it a couple days ago and was a little ashamed to see he's from one of my futurity studs... or maybe he's a futurity dud. :P I usually use perfect foundations for studs or I would have thought to performance test him first. I might do that yet and see what his consistency is.

(blush) well, he's a gelding, he won't do any harm. I had no idea it was a thing.
-
I have likewise been surprised when two mares, one not so good and one pretty good are bred to the same stud and the not so good one produces the better quality colt!
-
Yeah, I've noticed the same thing. I was making a point of using as many perfect foundation mares and foundation rescue mares as I could for my era 11 line, but I had a few regular create DP carriers I threw in the pasture as well, and my best colts came from the regular create mares! And I didn't even have strict breeding advice back then to run foundations through, only BA. I guess you can never be sure until they're proven.Thanked by 1Fiddler

I think it's ment to be a sign that to improve the very inconsistent is to manually spay/geld them273933

Very Inconsistent has always been a thing but was very rare. I've noticed recently that I'm getting more of them - I don't know if that is deliberate on Ammit's part, or if I'm just getting a run of them. I never worry about inconsistency, so I've kept them.Thanked by 1Fiddler

Nope. Nothing has changed on our end. People stopped culling based on inconsistency so it is increasing in numbers.Need to contact me? Read this first.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

Some of my best earners are inconsistent so I've never worried about it in my show horses, and it isn't a problem in my color lines.
-
oh interesting. but do you have any "VERY inconsistent" show horses, @Bluchrystals?
-
I honestly don't know. I have tested everything in my show barns, but I haven't went through to see if I have any "very" as I've only just had them start showing up.Thanked by 1Fiddler

I just noticed recently too. I have three that I've bred, I'll have to keep an eye on them to see how they show later :D
I stopped culling based on consistency a long while ago, but i guess it took me a long time to get a very inconsistent horse.
If there is very inconsistent, is there a super consistent as well?

This is certainly not my best consistent horse, but it's my highest pointed 23 yr old.

My highest pointed inconsistent horse is also 23 yrs old.

It doesn't happen with every horse, so you will need to cull once in a while. They can still be worth keeping though.Post edited by bluchrystals at 2023-06-20 10:05:37Thanked by 1Fiddler -
