  • So, I've been around for a little more than a year and i have gotten to know very few of you except for maybe your game strategy. Is there something you'd like me to know about you?
    Tell me something.
I'll start, I'm retired, have always loved horses and am a pandemic learner, learned to play the fiddle and am learning some foreign languages
    Thanks for reading

  • I've been very out of touch with the game for the last few months but I absolutely think this is a great idea!

I'm a stay at home mom of 2 girls. I run a farm of just about every farm animal you can think of.
I breed, raise and show ADGA registered Alpine Dairy goats, I post the babies here every year.
I've owned my 22 year old Thoroughbred gelding since he was 2 and I was 13. As much as I love horses, my heart for working with them on a daily basis will leave this world with him this fall when we are making the call to help him cross the rainbow bridge. We also have a mini pony mare and stallion that will stay until their last day but it'll be the last horses I'll ever own.
I love to crochet, make vinyl decals and t shirts, I've been researching into sublimation printing. I spend 90% of my day researching anything that comes to mind between animal genetics to animal medical studies. We also work with and raise foster kittens for a local cat rescue.

  • I’m in similar position - I haven’t gotten to know many people even though I’ve been regularly playing for a good bit now.

I’m a college student in the mid-atlantic majoring in mechanical engineering. The rising popularity of pickle ball in the area is insane.

I’m a classically trained violinist - I started playing when I was 8 - but I cannot fiddle for the life of me :))

I still have my first horse, a QH who’s the same age as me and who’s foal date is exactly 2 weeks after my birthday (I was 10 when I got her and now we’re both 21). She’s been free leased out to a small lesson program for several years now and teaches the littles how to trot and canter :) She’s approaching retirement even though she’s been retired from hard work for years now and thankfully she’s still going strong. I dread the day we’ll have to make the tough call - she’s my heart horse.

I started riding horses when I was 5. I was at some outdoor fair/event, and being the shy little 5 year old I was, I was velcro-ed to my mom’s side and wasn’t willing to stand in line for anything or talk to anyone. However, there were pony rides at the event and somehow I ended up on a horse and I was immediately hooked. I stood in line over and over for the chance to take a pony ride and kept asking to ride the biggest horse. My mom asked the owner of the horses who was doing the pony rides if she gave lessons, and that’s how it started.

I started out riding western pleasure and then moved into hunt seat riding. Eventually I began jumping and showed in hunter divisions. I eventually came to the conclusion that showing was not good for my headspace and I felt like I needed to reconnect with the reason I started. After showing from ages 5-16 I quit and just focused on training and the horse-rider relationship. At the time, I had an OTTB mare that was a wee bit off her rocker and required some extra TLC as far as training was concerned. I began taking dressage lessons in addition to hunter/jumper lessons to help with a more wholistic and relaxed approach to horse training. Over the years I also dabbled in gymkhana (mostly barrel racing), cattle sorting, and competitive trail.

I’ve owned 7 horses in my life (including one free lease) - a Percheron/Hanoverian cross, 2 OTTBs, a QH, and 3 miniature horses. Ironically (and probably stupidly) all but one of the horses I’ve had have been mares. One of the minis I still have is the only gelding. Even worse, 4 of the 7 have been chestnut mares.

If anyone is looking for a good equine training book - the Practical Dressage Manual by Bengt Ljunguist is something my dressage trainer had me read. Denny Emerson’s books are also good (and his Facebook page lol)

I showed miniature horses for a while and still have 2 minis (one was my show horse who foundered and is in touch-and-go recovery, the other was a “free”/rescue situation due to his odd temperament). Neither will ever be sold unless there’s absolutely no alternative.

I have a cat that I adopted about a year ago who is the most adorable little menace. While she’s not orange, she definitely acts like she shares their collective brain cell. She also demands belly rubs and is the reason I can’t sleep with my feet underneath the covers (sneak attacks are painful)

  • @RedtailFoxFarm - you live in the middle of the Atlantic? :-O

I am retired and live with my husband in the south of England. We have two grown up daughters and four grandchildren. I found this game because I have a fascination with genetics. I love horses but have never owned a horse, although I did used to ride in my youth. I knit and sometimes crochet. I recently joined a choir even though I can't sing very well, but I thoroughly enjoy it. In my 50s I studied with the Open University and have an Honours Degree (I'm very proud of that). I am learning languages to keep my brain active. I use Duolingo, which is not the best, but it's free. I'm learning French (getting on well with that), German (not too bad with that one) and Irish Gaelic (really hard so I'm going slowly with that one). We have no pets - I like dogs but I'm afraid of cats. I've been playing this game for over 13 years and hope to continue playing it for many years to come. :)

It's nice to get to know people. Thanks for this @Fiddler.

  • Hello everyone!
I'm in a chaotic part of my life, and my engagement here has been lower the past few months... I've been just doing the basics (daily HHs, weekly showing, last-minute pasture breeding while I swear that I'll do it early next month), but I'm starting to get back to more normal-for-me (actually checking the forum is a start! maybe next month I'll clear my pastures & reevaluate who's where?!).
I have a 6-year-old & a 9-month-old (and a husband, who is self-employed & mostly kid-wrangles), I work an office job that I liked far more when it was WFH, and my big project recently is deciding to do a raised bed garden. We got as far as doing the cinderblock rectangle for it, and planting herbs in the holes of some of the blocks, but hopefully we'll get the center filled in and plants planted in the next few weeks!

  • I'm a young single just working at making ends meet at this point(as a housekeeper). I live in the Pacific Northwest on the coast, and I joined this game because I'm interested in learning more about color genetics. I still feel fairly new to the game, but I'm really loving it! This community is the best I've come across in any horse game, and I've been learning a lot.
I have been living in my own apartment for about a year now, and my current pets are all aquatic(1 fish, 1 dwarf frog, several snails, more to come). My landlord doesn't allow pets that aren't in tanks, unfortunately, or else I would have a cat as well.
I love horses, books, rocks, succulents, and Doctor Who, and I've been around/worked with horses off and on all my life. My favorite horse I've worked with, so far, was a sassy Quarter Horse/Percheron mare.

  • I'm back after a few months away from the game, due to craziness planning a wedding in the middle of show season :))

I live in Kentucky, am recently married, and I work as an assistant horse trainer at an Arabian show barn teaching riding lessons and riding young horses. I'm in the beginning stages of building my own lesson/training program, which is huge and intimidating, but super exciting. I've owned horses for over 20 years now, and my main discipline is dressage, but I used to event and plan to when I own a jumper again, and now I've been dabbling in the tiniest amount of saddleseat, which is way more fun than I expected it to be.

I own one Arabian currently, and a parrot. I desperately want a dog (and have plans to meet a local reputable Dalmatian breeder soon), but I live in a high rise apartment that doesn't have a balcony, so I'm not subjecting myself to potty training a puppy with an elevator lol

  • It's interesting reading about everyone, we all are such varied ages and backgrounds!
I'm an older single woman in Australia, lived a mostly transient life until more recently when I bought my first block of land! I own and breed gypsy cobs, which up until now have mostly been agisted, which made it hard. My first 12 months on my new block has of course had its trials, with major flooding in the first 6 months, no fencing and very little grass! But I'm getting there, I got a major tax bill as my cabin isn't a legal dwelling so with that and my mortgage, and feeding all the horses it's been an interesting year!! But I still love it here, just coming into spring and it's beautiful. I'm excited to see this years foals!!
I do apologise to anyone that tries to contact me, I try to get on regularly as I do enjoy the game, but sometimes life just gets too busy

I ended up picking this game up during the height of the pandemic, and it saved my sanity. It took a little while, but I ended up finding a chatroom that was pretty active, so I get to talk to a few friends on here almost every day now.

I'm a Machinist by trade, making medical implants and surgical tools. But before that I used to be a cake decorator, and entered a few competitions. And prior to that I was a Mad Scientist lol, sorta. Trade school won out, and I left the classroom to become a Mad Machinist.

I used to draw and paint nothing but horses, and I really miss doing that again. Some point I ended up throwing myself into Betta Fish art, and right before the pandemic hit, I launched my small business called Creative Betta. It's mostly turned into betta fish art and stickers, but the intention was to be aquarium inspired artwork and decor.

When I'm not working, and not using this game as an excuse to get out of folding my laundry, I'm playing board games with friends.

  • @RedtailFoxFarm right?! Seriously I blinked and it's Pickle Ball everywhere here in South Florida. I was just at a dinner celebrating the opening night of a play my father preformed in, and one of the cast members said how his parents couldn't come to see him preform because they had pickle ball in the morning. I'm thinking 1) what the heck is pickle ball, and 2) is it so important they would miss their sons performance?
  • I love your betta stickers! Especially the attack betta pin! Do you ship them?
Edit: I just found your Instagram account. I may have to order some stickers and pins at some point...

  • I'm a veterinary technician by trade, and worked towards my Veterinary Technician Specialist title in the beginning of the pandemic. I specialized in emergency and critical care, and work in a specialty ICU in New Hampshire (USA).

Single, and also work on a dressage barn in exchange for an apartment above the barn. Only way to afford rent around here. Have a ton of houseplants as well.

I had talked about a new puppy last year and he is a little over a year now. He is a Wirehaired Vizsla, has a great beard and is such a good dog. We do hunt training with NAVHDA, AKC conformation, FastCAT, dock diving and are trying out rally.

  • @CheshireFarms I was moving places a couple weeks ago and was supposed to have 2 football players from my school help me out (they were getting paid) and the day before they backed out because of a pickle ball tournament!! :-O
  • @Fiddler - my degree is in Childhood and Youth Studies. At the time I was a Teaching Assistant in a Secondary School (11 - 16 year olds) but I left the job just as I graduated because it had become stressful and more about ticking boxes than helping young people.

@RedtailFoxFarm - I looked at a map of the USA and Virginia seems to be about half way down the Atlantic coast, so I'm guessing that's what you meant. :)

And will someone please explain what pickle ball is? :-B

  • @WhiteValley yep that’s what I meant

Pickleball is like a combination of tennis, badminton, and ping pong (table tennis) as far as game rules go. The paddles are larger rectangular versions of ping pong ones and the ball is about the size of a tennis ball but made out of a material similar to a ping pong ball. The court is pretty much just a smaller tennis court.

  • Love this idea! I have a few good friends here, but I don’t know much about anyone else.

Currently I’m a stay at home mom with two children. Two years ago, before having my children, I was a Veterinary Assistant for many years. I started working in the vet field when I was in middle school and have loved the job ever since. My passion was emergency medicine.
I was born into the horse world. My mom was a very talented hunter/jumper rider, and my grandfather was also a talented rider and horseman. At four years old, my mother bought me my first horse...a four year old Appaloosa. From there, I have gone on to own over 20 horses of my own. I have had a bit of everything, but QHs, Appaloosas and Miniature Horses are my true love. I have done everything from driving to reining. I was schooled in English riding and low jumping as a young child, but i couldn’t seem to connect with it. After some very unfortunate events in my life, I found myself at a point where I desperately needed something to light the fire again for me. After searching for nearly two years, I happened to come across a stable when on a soccer tournament trip for my sister. There, I found the horse who saved me. A very spunky 5 year old red devil AQHA mare. One trip around the arena on that Ranchy mare changed my life forever. From there on, I have lived and breathed Western Pleasure, Reining, Ranch work. I expanded my family’s horse farm and started training, giving lessons, consignment sales, and showing. I have been blessed to work with so many amazing horses and people. Since, having children I have slowed down in the horse business. I recently lost my Paint x Frisian gelding, so I’m down to just my 17 year old red devil AQHA mare and 17 year old Miniature Horse gelding. Soon I’ll be rebooting my barn hopefully.
Besides my horses, I have a German Shepherd(The love of my life), a Lab, a Beagle, a Brittany/pointer rescue, two cats, and too many rabbits to admit to. I’ve been a Holland Lop Rabbit breeder for 12+ years. My other hobbies include fishing, hunting, winter sports and anything outdoors really.

  • @RunAwayDream lol why is it always the red heads lol
  • I'm in a retirement home, so no pets, not even a fish. It was really hard to part with my furbabies, I still get tears in my eyes and choke up when I think about them. Reading about other people's fun with their furbabies cheers me up. Lots of humans here in the lodge but it's not the same, is it. When I started as a bookkeeper, my window by my computer looked onto the owner's pasture where they had 4 half-draft horses, and it was really hard to focus on my work when they were playing in the field. Then they got a miniature donkey, who spent April 1st in the mayor's office. When the grain truck was in the yard, the horses were tall enough they could reach over the top and eat the grain while the poor little donkey ran back and forth so upset because he couldn't get any. Then I move to a nearby small town to go to college, and did 2 two year diplomas, accounting and agri-business. As a single mom raising 2 kids while in college and trying to maintain a high mark, I was a basket case by the time I finished college. I got a job as a bookkeeper for a very large home schooling school, over 1600 students. At that time I had a half basset-half border collie dog, an orange tabby cat, and some cockatiels. I never had the opportunity to have horses til I discovered them on the internet. I love the new artwork. Makes them look so much more real.

  • Hi! Such a good idea to get to know everyone!

I'm currently a Barista and LOVE it. I studied culinary arts but after being in the field for a few years I realized it's very toxic and I'm not fit for it. I starting taking horse riding lessons when I was 8 (I'm now 23) and rode up until 2021. Sadly life is too busy and expensive right now, but I keep up with my favorite horses and run into horsey friends every once in a while. One day I will get back into it, I miss it so much.
I live with my husband and 2 cats, Sisi who is a female grey tabby and my baby. She's my cuddle bug and definitely prefers me over my husband :))
Wasabi is our new guy, we just got him about 6 weeks ago and he's also a cuddly guy but still getting to know us. My goal in life is to one day own a horse again. I bought one when I was 12 but sadly had to sell him at 15.
Me and my husband just bought our first house in Feb 2023 so it's been kinda crazy learning about homes. There's been a lot of change recently. But 2023 has been a year already, we bought a house, got a new cat, I got a new job, I started anxiety medication to help better myself and all of it has been nothing but amazing.
Some of my other hobbies include art (Mostly painting) and paddle-boarding and I still love to bake and decorate cakes. My husband is an Accountant for a staffing company and is so good at what he does, he enjoys watching classic horror movies (which I've learned to love) and working out.
I'm so excited that I get to read and get to know more about everybody!

  • :-? I've never attempted to introduce myself before...I
have just started to reach some good strides in my life. A little backwards and socially awkward from being sheltered and homeschooled my whole life. A bad marriage made me kind of draw in a bit more and hide from everything. I am relearning how to be myself with some special help. :\">
I work at a Walmart distribution center in Ohio. I receive all the cold freight on weekends that then gets sent to the stores in the area. I have put in for a new position as the pay is good, but the hours I'm getting aren't quite enough to be comfortable.
I have three girls, 14, 8, and 4, wildcats. :-)) They tolerate each other, but when they get along they're a blast to watch. They finally started doing better in school last year when their home influences settled a little. The youngest starts kindergarten this year, so I'll have a lot more free time on my hands.
I am going through a divorce, that was supposed to be a dissolution, from a person that I am assuming is a narcissist from others explanations of his treatment of me. :-w Except that *he* decided he didn't want to sign any more papers. Doesn't want to pay anything, but doesn't want to sign to get it over with either. He was served the divorce papers last week, and I'm just waiting on the courts to decide a hearing date.
Right after he left, a friend I met online two years ago contacted me again. We've been talking online for almost a year now and he's supposed to be coming to Ohio in August so we can meet in person. Super excited and super afraid at the same time, which is a whole rollercoaster.
I am in flux on religion. I was raised Pentecostal, homeschooled through a Baptist school, but moved entirely away from that in the last few years. Found I have been gravitating more towards things that my raising makes me super uncomfortable with mentioning.
I have three black/black and white cats, a Border Collie who needs way more work than she currently gets(think neurotic 8-| ), and about 20 chickens, mostly Blue Laced Wyandottes, Salmon Favorelles, and Black Marans. I forgot to add that I also have white Guineas for bug control and alert duties.
I live in an '94 trailer that needs a little more than TLC. Repairs were not done properly in the 17 yrs I have lived in it. Partly to blame, as I was ignoring everything in the quest to "get along". I'm just now starting to catch up and get ahead of most of the things that need replaced or repaired.
All in all this has been a most startling couple of years. @-) But me and mine are doing much better and the only goal is upward and onward!

  • I am on disabilty and am retired. In my previous life i enjoyed being a program analyst, basically combing through progams to find the issue for the programmers, i did a bit of programming myself

i have been active with horses for most of my life, through my uncle or friends.
my first job was at a rental stable. I got my first horse when i was 15, an appy gelding that we purchased from them, and a 2 yr old 1/2 tennessee walker.. we did just about anything imaginable. our favorite was endurance riding, and gaining 350 miles under our belt. they both taught me how to train, and figure out how horses think and react.

i started training horses from that point, by buying young horses to break. i am proud to say i was only thrown once, which was totally my fault and deserved it. lol i have since stayed training horses and have done so for over 40 years, i progressed into retraining horses, fixing problems, including dangerous horses.

i had one mare that i rehabilitated that tried to kill me. she became respectful after i was done with her. i also bred and trained paint horses for cutting and reining until i went on disability. i now train my own horses now.

i own 7 horses currently. 4 arabs, 1 thoroughbred, and 2 paints. 1 of the arabs i rescued from a kill center. she has severe trust issues, but we are working through it.

besudes the horses, i enjoy fishing, camping and woodworking. i mostly do intarsia work, which is basically making a 3d puzzle out of wood.

  • I'm 30 years old, married with 3 cats, own my house and work at home. I'm 2 semesters from graduating with my bachelors in health information management (if you want to know how to fight your insurance company, Americans, drop me a line lol) and work full time for the evil health insurance >:D

Horses were not a part of my life until around age 10 when I said mom I want to ride a pony that isn't on the wheel at the amusement park. Luckily, mom had a friend with horses so I got my education starting there, I've been a freelance horseless horse rider since, leasing, borrowing, and volunteering my way into rides. When I got a big kid job 9 years ago I called the closest dressage barn that offered lessons and started "Formal" lessons (I took some hunter lessons and general lessons as a kid but nothing consistent and not dressage). I leased a morgan gelding at that first barn and we learned dressage together for 3 years before he was sold. After that I took a break from horses, got married and bought a house. After that I found another barn with dressage lessons and leased an 18hand hanoverian (my avatar pic) and loved on him for a good 5 years through his retirement, he died this April. I made a good friend at this barn who has an "extra" horse I have ridden in the past and will start riding again soon (Hopefully). I'm at the point in my life where I would just love to have my own horse and control over where it lives and how it's trained and when I can ride... but the money! Stupid expensive animals. Hopefully the degree next year kicks up my income.

In my free time I also knit and crochet (hello fellow fiber artists!) I've been reading the Witcher series, and I also love watching anime and have my few weekly manga I keep up with. My other game of choice right now is Final Fantasy 14
  • I guess now it’s my turn to introduce lol.

So I live in the Midwest or actually half way between CHI & STL and believe it or not, it is still VERY agricultural around here. Soybeans, corn, hay and beef cattle farms. The horse world in this area is shrinking yearly because barns keep closing which makes me so sad. This area used to have APHA, AQHA, ApHA, POA and huge open shows. One of those is where I found my heart girl.

I have 3 horses. 1) Sable 28 yr old black Egyptian Arab. Got her at 6 mos old. 2) Daisy 23 yr old red roan rabicano minimal white APHA. Got her at 15 mos old. 3) Jesse 22 yr old sorrel and white tovero. She is appendix (3/4 TB) but has full regular registry APHA papers. Got her at 2.

I know they are old and my time with them is limited but they are all so different. Sable is still a show off and wants to be the center of attention, Daisy is very serious and protective of my son. Jesse is a goofball and wants to be in your pocket and cuddle. I think she took the hooking up and becoming in tune a little too seriously some times

  • @Lioness83, i had a similar experience in the 10 years I lived in Idaho. At first there were lots of pastures and horse farms, but the pastures are now subdivisions and most of the stables and farms have closed. Thanks for writing and telling about yourself, your love of horses and your horses who sound wonderful.

  • I'm a little late to the party. So interesting reading about everyone! I'm in south eastern Michigan, near Detroit. I'm in my thirties and married with two young girls and two dogs. I'm currently a stay at home mom. And while this isn't the most exciting season of my life, it is one of the most rewarding.

In the past, I worked at a dog/cat kennel/daycare. So, while I may not have any experience with horses, I've worked with animals for years. Genetics have always interested me and I had been looking for a game to quench that thirst for awhile before I found h&j.

My other hobbies include painting, dungeons and dragons, and writing. I've actually written two fantasy novels that I've queried with no success. I haven't done much since my youngest was born, but one day soon I will pick it up again and get back on the horse so to speak.

We are currently in the suburbs and my dream is to purchase a house in the country near some woods where I can teach my girls to garden and forage. I'd also love to welcome more animals into our family, but we'll see if I can convince my husband.

The last fact I will share about myself is somewhat random, but super important to me. In 2015 I suffered what is called an ectopic pregnancy. This happens to about 10% of pregnancies and is where the baby implants itself in a location other than the uterus. This was my first child and implanted in my fallopian tube. I knew I was pregnant, but a baby can't grow in a fallopian tube. So, my tube ruptured and I lost nearly 4 liters of blood and almost died. The reason I am sharing is to hopefully raise awareness. I am lucky I made it, and I wouldn't have if I hadn't decided to go to the hospital. This is more or less a quick PSA since I had no idea what an ectopic pregnancy was before it happened to me.
  • @soliloquy goodness, glad you survived! I hear ectopic pregnancies are painful too! I hope you make it to the country. I did not. But i taught my kids about wild plants and foraging, and today, they both know more about mushrooms than me and love to forage.

  • Ive been meaning to wright mine. Life has been super busy the past few years.

Hi im Brooke, im 1 month shy of turning 30! ive been playing haj for about 5-6 years.
I am from New York State just below Albany "not the city".
I have been a living breathing horse lover since i was a toddler. Since i was 5 i was getting riding lessons and finding every excuse to be at the farm. As a child my favorite was english but as i gotten older i found the love for western pleasure and ranch. Growing up my hobbies were 4h, local horse shows, drawing and painting , hiking , and im a bit of a gym finatic lol. Since being out of school in 2012 ive had 3 jobs. Stewarts ice cream shop because who doesnt like ice cream right? :)) then working for my local Sheriff's department. I loved that job but i don't recommend it for anyone with young children. The long hours and never knowing when youll be called in or when you can go home and mandatory sticks made it hard on home life. Almost ruined my engagement. I left due to the harsh work hours and started a career in the veterinary field! Working with all types of animals including wild life and exotics but i have to travel a long distance to work there and i took a major pay cut. But working with animals has been so rewarding! But with gas prices rising along with costs of goods im looking into starting a candle and soap buisness hopefully in the future. Something from home so a couple days less travel , more family time and the chance to pick up more on the hobbies i used to enjoy.

Also for those who remember my post way back about being concerend about my youngest horses height and my trainer suggesting thinking about selling and finding one taller for the bigger shows and pinto shows or keeping her and just staying local. I ended up keeping her and this has been her 3ed year in training and although she is a mere 14.2hands tall , what she lacks in height shes doubled in movement, additude, and willingness. This is her first year in the show pen and she has placed 4th and above for every class shes entered so far and our last show we ended up winning the championship class along with being the highest point earner. I am super proud of her! I wish we had APHA appointend classes where i am. We have so many paint horses this way vs quarterhorses or other breeds. The closest APHA pointed show is Ohio and thats a LONG drive away . For the few who posted from Iowa. Josie was bred and born from a farm in Iowa. Her sire was" By appointment only ".

  • @brandybrookes, i know I'm in the minority, but i think 14.2 is a perfect size for a riding horse. When i was young and impressionable, my gf and i rented pasture from this old guy. He rode ponies and we were scandalized, after all you need a big tall horse, right? Well, he made his ponies step out and walk faster than our bigger horses, and he mentioned that if he fell, he was closer to the ground!
I'm sorry you have to make such tough life choices. I chose the shortest Commute and the biggest paycheck and had the most boring job on earth. We all have to make them. Thanks for writing.

  • Hi all! I know this is a little bit of an older post, but I wanted to do a 'Hey Guys' post, so I thought this would be a good fit.

I took a break in 2020, so I've been gone a little over three years, and I'm so excited to see all the changes and improvements since I've been gone! I am also excited to see some of my old friends still around. I started planning way back when there was hajinc and shoco... I don't remember the year. Played for a long time and then took a break in 2014 and lost my subscription from a Paypal error! I came back in 2015 and luckily my subscription kept me going during my most recent absence (I was definitely checking!), but I came back to every horse I owned having passed away, lol. So now I'm slowly building my show horse herd and then will sort out what I want to focus on. It's kinda fun to start clean!

In my real life, I've stepped back from horses in a big way. I still have one, it's actually the mare in my profile pic, she's 24 now and is retired. I pet her on the head twice a day when I feed, but that's about it. I've got two kids that aren't really that interested in horses and I'm somewhat happy about that, lol.

I still work in marketing for a local nonprofit and since covid I've been lucky to work 100% from home. The biggest change in my life right now is that I've gotten really heavily involved in Dairy Goats, also a little bit of a reason for my game break. @LEAcres, excited to see another goat person!

I breed Nigerian Dwarf, Lamancha and Mini Lamancha dairy goats and show around the central east coast of the US. It's been really nice to find a passion again, and as passionate as I was about horses at one time, I've switched it to goats. So I spend an incredible amount of time reading, researching and learning more about goats. I love crafting and creating miniatures. I also created reborn dolls for a while. However, the goats have pretty much taken up all my 'free' time now, but I couldn't be happier.

I look forward to getting involved again and finding new folks to chat with through the game!
  • What kind of horses do you need? Welcome back!
I'm curious, why do people like goats without ears?

  • @Fiddler Thank you!
I haven't decided where I'm going yet. I've already caved to the Polish Arab BC, 'cause I remember being so excited when the Light horse came out, and I like this one even better. In the past I'm pretty strict colorwise on my lines, I'm just not sure what I'm going to pick this time, but I'll definitely let you know!

There is a Lamancha saying, that 'If it's got ears, it's just a goat'. lol. Truthfully tho, I started with them because they are so different-looking, but fell in love because of their personalities. When I was a teenager in 4-H I really wanted to show Nubians, I just loved their big bold bodies and roman noses, but as an adult, I decided not to go that route. We've had some here, and I've got a mini that has some nubian in her, and you can tell. They tend to be big and bold, and a little loud, although it does depend on the goat. All my lamanchas are so laid back and friendly. They just go with the flow and they are easy to manage. Even the minis tend to have the lamancha personality vs. the Nigerian personality. They are an American breed, which I think is pretty cool and I just really like the look of their bodies vs. some of the other breeds. No hate against the others tho. I love watching the other breeds at shows.
  • Stony, yes the polish Arab is so pretty.
My fave breed of goat was always toggenburg, bur I never actually owned one. Thanks for explaining.

  • @Stony Brook Stables - there are a handful of goat breeders here and even Ammit use to breed goats herself! I have to say the goat show community is so much nicer than the horse show community and we always love meeting new friends! If you are ever in the MD, WV, PA, DEL area showing, we might run into each other :)

We recently added Sables to our herd and I'm really questioning focusing on Alpine at this point :))
The Sable girl we picked up at our last show is just so sweet and laid back whereas my Alpine are absolute terrorists sometimes (especially the does) :|

I do have 1 Nigerian and she is the Queen B of the herd and doesn't tolerate nonsense from anyone lol

My oldest daughter wants to get a Lamancha but I'm going to have her show the Sable for a year to make sure it's something she really wants and for her to get the understanding of how to show! We are picking up an Ober doeling this weekend for my youngest daughter but it's one of those things where she's mine until my youngest can prove herself and it was really hard to pass on this girl! I don't know if you know the Ober doe, Luvruc OBD Kim K (she was National Reserve Champion and Reserve Best Udder in Show this year at the ADGA Nationals in Washington) but this doeling is a Kim K granddaughter :x
  • Yup, I had Nubians for almost a decade. :)

  • @Fiddler We had a 1/2 Togg her for a bit, she was a nice doe. At the most recent buck show I went to there was a Toggenburg buck that went BIS under a couple different judges and he was just massive. I couldn't believe how big that buck was! My lamancha is big, but he is lean. The chest on that guy was incredible!

@LEAcres Yes! After showing horses for years it was such a pleasant surprise to show goats and have 99% of the people greet you with a smile and friendly conversation. We have definitely crossed paths! I show in VA, MD and NC, although I only made it to one in NC this year. I do like the Sables, the breeder I got a couple of my show does from also does Saanan, and the idea of a Saanan with color would be very appealing! You don't see a ton around here though. Next year I'll be showing Nigerian, Lamancha and Grade, I think three breeds is absolutely top for me! There is only one live show for the minis within 6 hours of me, and that is a little frustrating.

I do know the goat you are talking about! That is pretty exciting!! I've got a friend who is leasing an Ober to breed to her Nigie for Minis, I'm kind of excited to see how the babies turn out. I don't know the breeding, she just sent me udder pics, lol.

My #2 in the herd is a 22.5" mini lamacha. I don't know where she got her personality from, it must be the Nigerian side 'cause she doesn't give up anything. My herd queen is much more level-headed. She will stand back and watch the hierarchy confrontations but will step in if she feels like they get too rough, and then steps back and keeps watching. It's pretty incredible to watch how they interact with each other.

Ammit - That is so cool! I was in LOVE with them when I was younger. A very close friend breeds them and Nigerians and we are constantly trying to convince each other to add the other breed to our own herds, lol.
  • I'm 38 and found this place from someone advertising it on my other favorite game site Alacritysim.com which is dogs not horses lol

I currently live in Iowa and am a single mom with 2 kids (10 & 6) and work in a hog packing house. I run the chemical cage on 3rd shift dispensing all the cleaning chemicals for the cleaning crew.

I currently own a Husky, a Wolfdog, and a German Shepherd along with 2 cats and my daughters 6 parakeets/budgies. When I have free time I like to crochet or make tshirts with my Cricket machine for my friends and family.

I was adopted by my grandparents when I was 5 so they became my parents and I grew up on a horse farm. Our family does western pleasure. I learned to ride on a pinto Shetland when I was 4. My first pony that was all mine as a kid was a POA mare and from there I when I got to big for her I moved on to an Appaloosa gelding and the Appaloosa/POA gelding son of the POA and my dad's stud that I trained myself. (He was born when I was 14.) We mostly had Apps but a few other horses through the years. When my mom died in 2009 dad sold the horses and the farm and moved to Louisiana until he passed away a few years ago.

I've always had dogs and cats my whole life but other pets have included rabbits in the past when I dabbled in rabbit breeding. Mostly Mini Rex and Netherland dwarf. I plan on getting back into that but for now my current landlord says no way.
  • Kattalakis, hello! You sound like horses were a ĥuge part of your life. Thanks for posting. Sounds like you have a fun menagerie
