- The Fan Favorite will be turned into my next art piece.

Voting is OPEN
Voting for the "C" Horse Breed ends October 29th
Follow along to see WIP shots and give feedback! It will be fun to have you involved in my chaotic process!
In the past I have hosted online coloring books, and created printable coloring pages. These new designs could be the next coloring page!
Your suggestions will be turned into stickers! I have a small Etsy Shop that is mostly my horse art. I haven't done much with this shop over the last couple of years, and I'd like to start creating the things that inspire me again.

@Ammit you could say that lol. I always wanted to make a set, but the problem is I'm a weirdo that likes obscure breeds, or breeds which I think have some really historic value. So when I was going down the list of horses to make, I ran into problems like "how many people know what a Florida Cracker is vs a Friesian?" That and I was listing 3-4 breeds for every letter of the alphabet. I was going to have people vote on those, but then those might not be favorites for other people. In the end I blame you for my chaos and inspiration lol.
@annismyrph thank you. You can see the original here http://jnfcoloringbook.weebly.com/coloring-book/pleasure-stock-horsePost edited by CheshireFarms at 2023-08-22 08:35:40 -

@Ammit ooooh that makes more sense. And I wish I had the time and dedication to do something like that. It's why I never got into those monthly art challenges.
-
@Ammit, i've taken part in challenges like this; like paint an animal for every letter of the alphabet. That's how i learned about Quokkas!
-
@Ammit I signed up for the link you posted, never heard of it but it sounded really fun! Thank you both for sharing this stuff :)
Cheshire this is really neat what you're doing :x -
I suggested a horse and it is actually my favorite! It reminds me of a unicorn obviously. :PThanked by 1CheshireFarms

Thanks for the suggestions! So far we have 20 suggestions for 5 different breeds. I'm going to run this through next Thursday and have a final voting poll Friday - SundayThanked by 1TennesseeRain

Done and done! Both my choices remind me of unicorns. One is powerful and one is elegant.Thanked by 1CheshireFarms

Looks like the Akhal Teke won!! This is going to be so much fun drawing them! -
I would love to take part in this. How do we suggest our favorite breed for the letter?
-
@SheebaArab there are links in the main post. Currently suggestions for the letter B are open, https://docs.google.com/forms/u/1/d/e/1FAIpQLSeheSNIAuuriEP1KeHx5wnx6bhgM7NHY8BzginKWH6yjyNrsQ/viewform?usp=send_form and then after the 15th I will open it up for Voting.

It's been a busy week, so this is just a really raw sketch. I wanted to draw something that was typically Teke, and recently learned that some Tekes are gaited. However it's hard to photograph it, and harder to show it in a floating image. So instead of showing the Teke "Glide" I went with a nice floating trot that wasn't too exaggerated, or a really playful running pose. In both poses they were supposed to have their head kinda twisting, like they were shaking it (my horrible attempt to portray playful), but I don't think it was coming off well in the trot, so I will probably do the running sketch instead. -
They're both really cute! I especially love the face on the trotting sketch.Might be addicted to pixel ponies...

I agree, I can see playfulness in the trot.Thanked by 1CheshireFarms

Poking at proportions, trying to make it balanced. Having a hard time keeping this one Teke enough lol. And that tail is pissing me off, so it will be the last thing I draw lol. I think once I line it up, it might come together better, and at least I can adjust the lines better when I do. I like to draw with this vector program, so I can move lines without having to erase everything and redraw. -
You guys voted and the winner is BASHKIR CURLY...
I warn you the last time I drew a curly horse it didn't end well LOL. Hopefully this one is better. I'm going to hold off on more voting while I get caught up. When the teke is finished I'll open up votes for C -
I love what you have done so far! Great job!Thanked by 1CheshireFarms

You are very talented! I can look at images and, basically, copy them, but I can't just draw from memory. I totally envy those that can! I'm ready for the next round. I have a few "c's" in mind. B-)Craven Hill - 86081

Alright I think I'm actually happy with it! I might give it a larger outer boarder since I'm turning it into a sticker. I'm not going for photo realism, so I might want a little character to it. I don't want it too complicated, but I want to be able to easily duplicate it for each breed. That way I have a cohesive look at the end. Which is a lot harder to do than it sounds lol,Thanked by 1TennesseeRain -
S/he came out SUper Cute, I love the head tilt!Thanked by 1CheshireFarms

I'm thinking palomino for the first one. I really want to play around with those dark sooty buckskins as well.

So I went a little nuts with the shading and highlighting, and then realized It's not really working how I wanted it to lol.
Plus I'm getting into an argument with my printer lol, it likes to print darker than what shows on my computer screen. So I have to tweak my colors.
I'm leaning between No Shading and Light Shading styles for the rest of the images. I want to try to keep a cohesive style for all these stickers. However for the Teke I like the More Highlighter option. -
Given how "glossy" Teke's are , I think the "More Highlighter" is the closest :) I also like the "Light Shading" I think it makes the dapples look more realistic.Thanked by 1CheshireFarms
-
Annismyrph is right. While, personally, I like the light shading best, the most realistic ones for the breed are the bottom two. All four are beautiful of course! :xCraven Hill - 86081

@Ammit it is a pain in my butt LOL. I think I need to find a swatch I can print out, or make my own. I've thought about making one for horses, these are the colors for chestnut, these for bay, ect. 20 years or so ago when I was in school, I heard Apple monitors were better suited for art because the color was more accurate. I might have to do some research and consider an investment for next year.
I did make a Palomino, Cremello, and super dark/sooty bay or buckskin and ran some test prints. I sent them off to one of my manufactures to get some samples made and see how they look on professional Vinyl. I should have them by the end of the month! -
That sounds like some apple fanboy speel to me personally. I would start with sitting down and just calibrating what you have now. There are even third-party software you can use to help dial in your monitor visuals.Need to contact me? Read this first.

So as promised here are more WIP's. On the left are stickers I made from home. And on the right are stickers (and a magnet) professionally manufactured. I always like to print my designs from home to test out their color, and trouble shoot any problems I might have.
Palomino as a Vinyl Sticker with Colored Boarder
Cremello as a Vinyl Magnet with Colored Boarder
Bay as a Vinyl Sticker
Dark Sooty Buckskin as a Clear Vinyl Sticker -
Beautiful!Breeding high quality Sheldasen horses in all the fancy colors.

So I had this idea and I had to get it down on paper, but now I'm hating it LOL. I think it's the pose. I 'm thinking a standing horse instead. I wanted to do something a little beefy, showing the shorter coat in summer and the denser curly coat in winter.
Probably bit off more I can chew lol, will need to go back to the drawing board for this one. -
I think just go with the curly winter coat for the whole drawing. That's what's most distinctive about the breed so it may as well be as prominent as possible. A standing in the snow pose sounds nice. :)Thanked by 1CheshireFarms
-
I think you're right. LOL Anni said on FB that it looked like a centaurs hairy booty, and there's no coming back from that HAHAHA
-
@CheshireFarms ; lol you KNow I will always give you the straight unvarnished Truth!Thanked by 1CheshireFarms
-
I love the pose, but I agree that maybe the winter curly coat would best suit it since that's what they're known for

Where do we go to vote on the ones submitted for "C"? Or has that started yet?Craven Hill - 86081

@CravenHillEstate ; we will vote here when it opens :) She is still gathering breeds for "C" to my knowledge.
