Does it bother anyone else?
  • So I totally know that you can’t put breeding rules on a horse you put up for public stud, but is there a way to ever set private breeding rules or is that not a thing?

I put up one of my new heavily GMd foundation studs to share. I’m more than happy to have people use him but someone went and used him and bunch and didn’t run any of the foals through even basic spay/geld testing. I know it shouldn’t , but it kind of irks me because then they keep several completely untested studs for use. Yes, again, I know I shouldn’t put him for public if I wanted rules lol. I just thought it was a given thing at this point for people to use at minimum basic testing.

Are there any ways around this? I have not really been “involved” in so long and things change quickly.

    Thanks

ETA: I did raise my breeding price so maybe it will be more of an investment now. I’d lower if testing was used.

  • There is no need to say "Does it bother anyone else?" It's fine to just ask your actual question about private breeding. :) (It also tells us nothing about the topic of your post ;) )

You should be using a private chat room if you want to be monitoring the foals of your studs. Then you can have all the rules you want.

  • My question first IS does it bother anyone else, maybe I’m being unreasonable…

My second question WAS is there a way to get around it.

I didn’t know you could set rules and (enforce them?) with a chat room. I’ll look into that
  • The only thing that bothers me is if i send straws for futurity and they are not used or are not used for futurity. I don't mind if someone uses my stud (live cover or straws) they might get something really good. And if you have him standing live cover, you risk the chance that all his 50 breedings are going to be used up. That's happened to me and i am more careful with it now.

  • I will say if someone has stipulations like "only breed to a certain generation or era" or "only breed to sba mares," I will honor that or just not breed to that horse

  • I know Ammit said you could put them in private chat and have all the rules you want. But that makes it sound like your rules are actually enforceable, when they are merely suggestions. It happens in every game, if you put something out there in public, the only control you have over it is to remove it from public. It's a risk you take and something you're just going to have to learn to let go.

Now you could try reaching out to them, politely. Maybe they were going to do their testing when they are older or at the end of the month. But everyone plays their own game differently.
  • It may also help to offer an incentive. As an example, if a foal gets snipped a free straw from either the same stud or another.

  • Also, something to think about if you only "name" your horse and dont have generation or call a out a certain gene , you can't really expect the person breeding to your horse to take the effort to figure it out. Early on I bought some straws from someone and they didnt label the straw with the generation of the horse, so I "unevenly " bred. The horse was gelded and I put them in my show barn but the person was VERY upset I didnt sell the foal back to the game or auction it back to the game. It wasn't my fault they were "misbred" it wasnt the other person's fault either. But please remember, we as human are inherently "lazy" and if we have to work at something, chances are it wont be on a game, if you "can't put the extra effort in to make it easier" you can't expect someone else to be bothered either.

  • @CheshireFarms nope. You can enforce them by not allowing anyone in your chat room that does not follow your rules.

@annismyrph part of the reason we have the futurity is to break that kind of thinking. You need members to have show horse foals from your stock now. :)

  • I honestly could care less what people do with the foals they breed from my studs, if I don’t want the public to mess with a certain stud’s foal history…I simply don’t offer them to the public. Like Fiddler mentioned, it only annoys me when people get free straws and don’t use them correctly for the futurity. But I’m also the kind of person who tests everything and evenly breeds now lol

  • I don't care. What people do with my foals from my horses doesn't hurt me. Everyone has different goals in this game, and while I breed evenly for most horses and test strictly, I don't care if offspring is evenly bred or tested.

I actually stopped getting a lot of straws because I don't always want them for futurity use, or I forget about breeding to match eras and then "misuse" straws. I love the addition of futurities, and I lock any foal that has that option, but I just don't currently have the time to check every breeding to see if eras match up.

If I offer a stallion publicly, it's generally because I can't use all his available breedings, and so I appreciate the horsebucks it brings in, plus the fact that someone found my studs worth breeding to, but I don't think about it beyond that

  • @Ammit that's not enforcing them though. That's just kicking them out of the room. You can't take back the breeding or the foal. The consequence to them is to be kicked out of the room. Unless you're saying we can go to you and report it, and then you can remove the foal? That seems like a headache you don't need.
  • I would call that enforcing though. :)
