Breeding/Game Strategies
-
Good morning :)
I am looking to gain some more knowledge on the clubs/awards/futurity programs. I am reading through the topics in wiki and now I am finding that there is a possible negative relation between exceptional creates to era breeding?
I am just picking up my involvement here and I am not sure what I would like to breed for. So, I figured I'd start with xperfs and see if I can create some award winners. From there hopefully I will see what genes I have interest in. Maybe I could be focusing on era breeding instead of leaderboard focuses?
Basically, I am trying to figure out what strategy I want, though that's not necessarily needed.
How is everybody else playing the game? Would love to start making some connections and friends in game :) Thank you! -
Hi @Mozzymoo, from when i joined, i have changed strategies multiple times already.
everyone will tell you to save show horses (they're gelded or neutered) because they will earn you money.
I suggest you breed for horse types that you like.
I think your suggestion about negative relations between exceptional creates and era breeding is only that they are era 14 right now; but Era 14 is a good era to breed anyway!
look for deals (sometimes people sell horses for 500 hbs and you can auction them for 2500)
and look for contests...
and ask questions! -
Hi Mozzymoo, its nice to meet you! The futurities and clubs can be fun yet challanging and everyone tends to have many different focuses. Exceptional creates do bump the horse up an era so for instance right now we have era15 . When era 15 first came out you could not get an era 15 horse from an exceptional create. However it gives the player a little bit of a jump with era 14 if they choose to compete in that era using exceptional creates.
When i first started it was difficult for me to figure out what i wanted to do. The first thing i did was learn the genetics and played around with different colors. I am naturally a big paint horse fan so most of my lines consist of horses with some form of white pattern. Though i do have some that strayed off that path. Then i found my favorite colors to work with. I love sooty plus and DP most of my lines are either liver chestnuts or brown. I do have a grey line started but it is kinda sitting on the back burner a bit.
If i could have started all over again i would have prioritized building my show horses. Even if you dont own any licenses yet if you buy spayed or gelded horses you can get some very pretty and colorful show horses.
Organization is key. I would keep show horses to one barn and breeding stock in a different one when able to get more barns.
I would have had less but way better breeding stock and alot more show horses to bring in more hbs. This way its easier to manage and your making hbs to use towards bettering your breeding stock and saving for more barns!
I would have tested my foals more and spayed/gelded anything that was as good as the mare or sire and only kept supirior foals.
And i would have not kept so many stallions lol -
I've been playing (off and on) for 13 years. Admit and Haystack are continuously adding something new for us to marvel at. The one thing that has remained the same, though, is showing. Anything that does not remain intact ends up in my show barn, no matter the PT. Also, when I use the Exceptional Show Horse HH, I always like to create them as 2yo to get that extra year or two of training.
As far as anything negative between exceptionals being bred to later eras, that is not something I have not noticed when I breed. I often breed Exceptionals to regular creates and end up with superior foals and often get A's and Blues. I think it's just based on personal preference. I don't breed for specific eras myself, but I know a lot of players that prefer to do it that way. My focus is just breeding superior foals for each new generation. All my foals go through strict breeding advice. All 2nd gens must test superior to an Exceptional Producer or paper A. Each gen after that must at least test superior to sire. By the 5th generation only *Star stallions and *Gold mares remain intact. That's just my preference and I know a lot of players follow different guidelines. As long as you, consistently, get superior foals each generation, you're doing good.
As far as what traits you breed for, that's just something you'll develope as you go. I have a red based line with all of the basic patterns and dilutes. I am also an "anything goes" line that will be Ee A? based with various patterns and dilutes. The red based line has always been my main focus though.
This is a very tight knit community and everyone is always willing to help. Honestly, this is the best online community that I have ever been a part of. The players and developers here are very generous and kind. My door is always open for questions and requests. :)Craven Hill - 86081

If you are racing to get to the top of an era leaderboard exceptionals are not the way to go. The best way to do that is to start with normal creates the day the new era opens (June and December 1st). As a new player, you don't need to worry about that as it is an advanced leaderboard strategy. You may wish to give eras a shot come December. The era system is decided to give new players a chance at a leaderboard win.
