BA After Gender Change
-
I have a couple colts I would like to GMT to fillies, but not if they won't pass breeding advice. Do I test them as stallions and then change them to mares? Or will that change how they do testing wise? Trying to make the money smart choice.

You always need to test before switching. Otherwise, you won't know if it will stay intact afterwards. I haven't done a whole heck of a lot of gender switches, but so far, if they pass SBA before, they've always passed it after. Same goes for cloning. Now, if you just don't want to worry about testing at all, then it doesn't matter. I hope that helps. :)Craven Hill - 86081

BA and SBA compares to both parents equally, regardless of gender, so if they pass before the gender switch, they will pass after. If you want to comp test though, you might want to do that before and after so you can compare to both the sire and dam, since horses can only be comparison tested to horses of the same gender.Thanked by 1Kintara

@Cavalynn I think she just means that she is afraid to BA/SBA test first and then have them not pass after.Craven Hill - 86081
