Anybody else struggling with Embryo breedings?
-
Is anyone else having no luck at all with the breeding lab? I feel like I never get anything good or exciting from it anymore. Everything either fails SBA, fails comparison testing, or just barely passes my absolute lowest standard.
Like to like Foundation to Foundation breedings. Im having basically no luck with my foundation pasture the last few seasons too.
Just tonight I spent:
56000 HaJ Comparison Testing
1900 HaJ Color Testing
15500 HaJ Performance Inspection
15000 HaJ Breeding Inspection
124000 HaJ Breeding Vet Fee
And have basically nothing to show for it. :(
I have one that met my minimum standard that I GMTed to a mare to use. Then another that passed the minimum standard (superior to parents) I’ll keep to GMT to a mare as well. Everything else didn’t pass SBA, didn’t pass comparison testing, or had a bad PT score.
I’m feeling really discouraged with all of my breeding lately. Lined and Foundation. Breeding lab and pastures. The past few seasons, I’ve run out my GMT and IV store maxing just so I can have a few I feel excited about. But now I can’t afford to keep up with that. I’ve run my IV stash down to nearly nothing, and I use my GMTs faster than I get them.Post edited by paradoxphoenix at 2023-10-17 16:42:59 -
Why do you cull for PT scores?
-
I feel your pain. I just used 4 embryos from long-dead horses, and not one passed SBA. When one does I guess it will be just that much sweeter.
-
Just to be clear, nothing has been changed since the pasture bonus was added a good long while ago which actually made it easier to get good foals from embryos.
It kind of sounds like perhaps you just don't have stock you like breeding right now. Also, "a bad PT score." make sure you don't cull based on PT. It can really mess up your breeding lines. :)
If you are having a lot more than average foals failing SBA it probably means quality is not being matched very well which is causing the parents to be too far apart in ability to produce a lot of SBA passing foals.Post edited by Ammit at 2023-10-17 17:02:39Need to contact me? Read this first.

Going over some stats I see 596 foals you bred this year. I don't know if any were sold back to the game already. Of that 105 are intact. That already I would say is a very normal and solid intact rate if you did not sell back a ton of foals. 18% is expected. Also looking at your foals in the database I see some moderate uneven breeding but nothing I would say would be causing issues. So I don't think that is the problem.
It may just be time to alter a ton of stock you don't like and toss them in show barns and work on something you are more engaged with. You are getting a very normal amount of intact foals so nothing has changed on that end, but it sounds like the foals themselves are just generally disappointing to you.
What is it about the foals you are getting that are disappointing versus what is it about the ones you do like?Post edited by Ammit at 2023-10-17 17:17:17Need to contact me? Read this first.

Okay, that’s good to hear at least. Maybe I’m just still struggling with the aftermath of leaving my account basically neglected (bare minimum play) for so long.
And I culled kind of heavily during that time, too, to try to reduce numbers to try to get myself playing again. I’m never very good at parting with the stock already in the pastures so I really heavily culled foals so that, when mares aged out, I didn’t have as many to replace them.
And then maybe I’m making some of it worse in my attempts to get it back the way I want it?
I am culling way fewer this season. I can start being more forgiving with PT-based culls. I was with my lined horses this season, but I’ve kind of always heavily culled my 2G and used PT as the final factor. BUT maybe I need to stop doing that while I get things going again.
I really loved the stock I was producing around the time my life was overtaxing me and I stopped playing.
I have done some higher risk breedings (Expro to regular) earlier in the season and I do expect a high number of fails from those. But, in the past, some of my favorite lined horses have come from it so I’ve started doing it again. Haven’t done any of those today, though.
As far as what’s disappointing, some of it is the usual long standing HaJ tradition of all “all the prettiest ones don’t pass SBA” :)) And some of it is that I don’t get very many that hit my top tier standard anymore. This is most noticeable with my 2Gs. A lot of my lined comparison test/benchmark horses are gone. Or I’ve lost/forgotten them. So I’m kind of stumbling around blind at this point lol
And then some of it could just be that I really loved what I was getting around the time I stopped really actively playing. And a lot of that (I feel like, anyway) just went to waste. So maybe my standards are just too high right now.
And maybe I just need to switch my foal art back to the National foal until the Akhal Teke comes out lol My Friesian foals make me squeal, and Andy foals are classy. My Saddlebreds look better when they grown up :))

Don't forget you can use the normal national light foal art for your breed and just use the SB when they are older too. :)Need to contact me? Read this first.

I love that feature!
I’m just stubborn lol But I’ll try switching just the foals back and see if that helps.
As we get more BCs, I’ll probably do a fair amount of mix and matching. :D
