but i thought they had to win shows to excel!
-
The breeders clubs go off of overall points earned each "year". She's earned 154.1 points this year.Post edited by GalwayStallions at 2023-10-28 10:10:18Craven Hill - 86081

If you look at the club you can see how many points she has compared to others in the club,Need to contact me? Read this first.

ah.. yes. Of course. duh, thanks! but the moral of the story is be careful who you decide to get rid of!

Depending on the PT, you really can't get rid of any show horses between the ages of 8 and 18 or so if you want to be sure not to miss out on awards later on. I've had terrible show horses turn around the next month when they train up into a better level for them and then all of a sudden they're at the top of the leaderboards.
This mare pulled that surprise on me last year and won champion points earned for 2Gs in era 10 when that was the primary era. She was in 7W at the time and placing really well. That win was a lot of GMTs for me at the time and I hadn't even been looking at her before. It gave me a whole new respect for my show herd.

@Cavalynn, (gasp) great name, btw

I think I would rename yours to Gift Horse Fiddler! :)) Living and working on a ranch all my life, I've always heard the term "Never look a gift horse in the mouth." Yours seems to be a perfect example!Craven Hill - 86081

@GalwayStallions, she's named after one of my cats that went over the rainbow bridge..(which is why i didn't auction her off when I thought i should..
-
Ah. Definitely keep the name then. :xCraven Hill - 86081

Over on Mesa, I had two 18 year olds come of out of no where and win amazing awards, including one who got prizes in all four of her clubs. If you auction off those older horses for their points all the time, you miss out on some awesome goodies.

That's why, when I weed down the older horses, I do it by the number of points they earn. I keep the highest and sell the lowest to make space.
-
Fascinating! @chateaualbere very cool
-
This is why I don't auction off anything (except backward bred horses) unless they are over 10yo, leveled off in a bad spot, and have fewer than 450 total points. If they're earning at least 50hbs a day, I don't care how badly they're showing, they're staying in my barn.Post edited by MackZ at 2023-10-30 18:02:54Might be addicted to pixel ponies...
