Maybe a bug? Maxing

So i have these 4 young stud colts, all of whom i like. They are all about as good as the others. I finally picked my favorite, Josiah, and maxed him. I did a comp test on him after maxing him and he still came out as "about as good" as one of the othersthat was not maxed.Post edited by Fiddler at 2023-11-11 13:19:08 -
That's not a bug. It just means the colt that you compared him to already had high ability for that cross. If Josiah was testing AGA before maxing, then he was already pretty close to the max ability for that cross before you maxed him.
Just looking at the bloodlines of your colts, it looks like at least two colts are pretty close to the max ability that can be produced by their parents.Post edited by MackZ at 2023-11-12 22:24:20 -
Which one did you test him against? Looking at the foals in the barn 2 are 3ed gens and the others are 4th. If Josiah is testing aga to one of the 4th gens i would say thats pretty good! He is or was close to the highest ability his parents could throw! How did he test to his sire?

When comparison testing horses who are really close together in ability, I’ve found it’s easier to find a different benchmark to compare the 3 to. Either the best horses from their parents generation (to make sure all test superior to that horse and not just parents) or some other benchmark that I’ve found.
I’ve discovered that comparison testing within a generation (generation to generation) only weeds out the very worst individuals and leaves you a little blind as far as where the rest fall. So if you’re trying to further sort through, you have to get creative. -
To be clear they were all AGA each other before I maxed him. I did expect the max to make him better than the others... or say " at max possible for these parents"
-
@paradoxphoenix yes, I might have to try that, thanks
-
@brandybrooks, yes better than sire

". I did expect the max to make him better than the others... or say " at max possible for these parents""
Maxing him did make him the max possible for his parents. But maxing makes them the make POSSBILE it is still possible to get that score without maxing. If you want better than possible you need to boost.Post edited by Ammit at 2023-11-11 13:24:56Need to contact me? Read this first.

Lol thanks everyone.. so I don't really have a good way to decide which one of these colts is the one I should keep, which was the point of this exercise!
-
The one you maxed only has red/B papered parents, so there is a limit to how high he can max out to, if that makes sense. The ones with blue/A papered parents will have a higher max. But as to what they are now, if they are all AGA each other, try comparing to a few different horses, as one might be slightly better

@kintara oh goodness, that makes a lot of sense, thanks
