"Breeding Cap "
-
How do you know when you hit "cap" is it when nothing tests Superior? Is it a generational thing? How can you tell?
-
The breeding cap is ind the middle of the **Star/**Gold range. You will notice it when the lines stop evolving around there, and it is impossible to get anything Superior without boosting

I wonder if I'm better off bootstrapping my later generations at that point? The PT scores of all my later generations seem to be going backwards instead of forwards. I'm currently blaming the repeated generations of AGA
-
Thank you @Herzeloyde, i guess i ve hit it then with my snowflake line, so do you just quit testing or keep AGA intact at that point?
-
@annismyrph if you want to continue progression, you need to start boosting. The foals from boosted parents will have potential for higher PT/trainability. Just remember that the foals from boosted parents will always be born below or at the breeding cap, so you need to boost the future generations too, if you want to continue the progression.
It is very costly, so you need to decide if it is worth it for you.
If you are era breeding, you need to think about that too if you decide to boost.
Before the new breeding advice system, this would be the point where I would stop testing them, because no one would be passing BA at that point. But the new SBA is making sure that all foals at breeding cap level will pass the test andstay intact no matter how high breeding ability their parents have, so I have now tested all my breeding stock. (I love the new system!)Post edited by Herzeloyde at 2023-11-13 16:37:05 -
If you don't want to boost, just breed the ones that pass SBA and test AGA and enjoy your beautiful, high performing foals. They are now as good as they can get in game, and are both excellent breeders and competition horses.
This is what I am doing with my younger lines.
What I would consider doing, is to max out my stallions and the most important mares, to make sure that the ones I breed are really AT cap quality.
It is still not an economic choice, so you need to decide if it is worth it for you, and if this is really what you want to spend your hard-earned GMTs at.
But maxing out is a more budget friendly, era-friendly alternative to boostingPost edited by Herzeloyde at 2023-11-13 16:46:01Thanked by 1annismyrph -
@paradoxphoenix You can start to bootstrap of course, but you should also consider to start culling your breeding stock by AFPT if you are not already doing it.
This will remove most of the low performing mares from your stock.
I also speld their foals, unless I really love them, because the foals from the better mares that passed all testing will probably be better producers than the foals from the lower quality mares that I am taking time to remove from the gene pool. And the problem is rarely "not enough breeding stock" :)) -
Since they're all pretty much at Cap, should I start combining my generations 8-11? None of those later generations seem to perform better than my 8s.
I do cull by AFPT, but I generally don't start doing that until I start running out of room in the pasture.Thanked by 1annismyrph -
Sounds like a good plan to me!
-
Thanks both of you ! @Herzeloyde and @paradoxphoenix ; i might just start keeping my aga's lol after they get to gen 9 ofc
-
Im right there with you annismyrph. My era 8 line has hit its cap and next season will be my first expensive season boosting. I capped at generation 7 pt 14 from fully boosted foundations. Thankfully the other eras im breeding are still relatively new.Thanked by 1annismyrph
