Tips for playing with minimal time?
-
I know that's basically the premise of the game, but except for a span of time over the last couple of years, I've always been super involved with my playing. And grew my account to a size that is kind of high maintenance and I'm terrible at attempting to downsize :))
I'm going to be starting a new job at the end of the month, and I'm going to be struggling to find time to play for at least 4 months. The last time I had minimal playing time, I used all the wonderful bulk management tools we have to keep things going, but since I never did comparison testing, AFPT-based culling, barely rotated new stock into my pastures, way too ruthlessly culled young stock because I was drowning, etc, long term my lines suffered quite a bit. I feel like I'm just getting things back going the way I want again, but now I'm facing another stretch of very little free time.
I would love to reduce my numbers so I can focus on a small number of high quality horses, but I know I won't be able to. I get attached :p So I need to figure out how to keep my game running as is. Or maybe come up with better strategies to reduce numbers over time?
I've already combined my higher generations into one pasture. They've hit the cap for the most part so I gain nothing but additional work keeping them separate. lol So having them all in one place and bulk managing them as primarily show stock helps a lot. If need be, I can always collapse my "Valor" breed/line into my main line.
Anyway, what are ways I can keep my quality up with potentially extremely minimal playing time? Management strategies? -
I'm in the same boat since starting a new job in March and I am STILL downsizing mares :-))
I unfortunately don't have a lot of advice beyond what you are doing LOL. I am trying to keep only my very best each season but I'm so bad at culling LOLStarstruck2 on Bluegrass and Forest

What I did, when I had to leave the game for 2 years, was to take as many straws and eggs as possible from my favourite/most important horses, just as a precaution.
It was my lifesaver when I returned, I could basically pick up my lines right where I left them (but I litterary came back in the last secound, A lot of my things had only 1 month left before they expired when I returned)
But as long as you have a good backup with eggs and straws, you are safe if you choose to focus on a smaller number of horses and lines for a time.
Just find out which horses are the most important for you? Who do you look forward to breed and develop the most? The rest of your herd will be great showhorses for you for now, you don't even have to speld them. And if you decide to shift focus, they will be ready for you to start breeding them again.
So you don't need to say goodbye to anything, you just need to decide what you want to focus on the most the next few months, and the rest of your herd will wait for you
HaJ is the only place in my life where I use the Marie Kondo method. "Does this horse/line spark joy?
And I choose my focus based on the answer :))Thanked by 1Fiddler -
Congratulations with your new job btw!
Also, with the Maxing Out feature, you only need 1 straw and 1 egg to resurrect a bloodline. Before, we needed plenty of everything to be sure to get a foal that would pass testing, but with the new system we only need to max out a foal, so it is perfect for situations like this.
If you want to continue breeding all your horses, you could consider to focus on one line or one generation pr month, and alternate? -
Great suggestions!
I love the maxing feature :)) I’ve blown my budget on it multiple seasons :)) The one nice thing about reducing playing time is I should get my hbs and IVs back up again. I forgot just how much I can spend while actively playing :))
