Need your Feedback on the Thoroughbred.
  • We are ready for feedback on our next BC. This time it is the Thoroughbred. Please let us know any issues with the line art you spot that need addressing.

-Please do not post photos here. We have found photos during the feedback phase unhelpful at best and downright confusing at worst.
-You are always welcome to edit, draw on, mark up, or otherwise alter the below images in any way you want to more clearly show your feedback. (If you are doing heavy edits please use the no mane and tail version.)
-Please be very clear and explicit with your feedback. Saying "The leg looks odd" is completely unhelpful, and expects us to be mindreaders. Good feedback looks like "The front near side leg on the adult as a cannon bone bows out at the ankle." We need to know which image, which part specificity, and what you think does not look right.

These posts normally run for about 24 hours. Thank you so much for your help.

**Just a note, yes this horse is large withered, a bit long, and a bit underbuilt in the hind end. These are intentional choices I have made as I feel it best represent the breed. I want a horse that looks like many of the OTTB's many people own and love. So please know that I won't be changing those aspects. We are also going for a very young baby with this foal. We plan to add a bit of ribbing in the shading to help sell that.

  • The foal looks good to me. For the adult, the only things I noticed after looking over it for a while is that I think the barrel could be slightly deeper in the belly area, the line of the throat could be straighter, and the front hooves could be more upright and less angled. I've made slight edits to the line art to illustrate:

  • I'm not going to pick at the details, just please correct the top line. The horse is standing uphill (withers are taller than the croup).

I think the foal is adorable!
  • The rump looks uphill and not big enough; The TB 's I ve encountered always have a larger muscled up back end and are slightly more tucked up in the flank area. I am not good at drawing or editing, but I could get you a really good picture of what I mean . OK just saw your note; I guess the rump wont be fixed considering that.

  • I agree with cavalynn in that the pasterns could be a bit shorter and more upright, but I certainly wouldn't call what's drawn out of character either.
  • @CheshireFarms, I’m not sure I understand. What’s the problem with it being uphill?

I quite like this one. The pasterns definitely could be more upright, but from what I’ve seen of Thoroughbreds they are also usually quite long. I’d much prefer what’s drawn here.

  • I just feel that this drawing is an extreme version of being uphill.
  • Just a large shark fin wither like many in the breed.

  • I am going to post a general reminder to Bluegrass server to please read the initial post. I think we have a fair number of people posting without reading or ignoring the posting guidelines.

Following these guidelines will save not only my time but yours as well. Thank you so much.

  • I don’t have a lot of feedback right now, but the adult looks like a good egg. Reminds me of the OTTB I took care of at one of the barns I used to work at.
  • I added another markup on Mesa, one of the members thought the legs should have longer cannon bone, so I added a bit of length to the cannon bones on the adult. @annismyrph thank you for your kind words. I don't know if I should post the new markup here too since Ammit looks at all the servers.

  • I would really rather you keep your posts to one server, please. Posting on multiple ones ends of skewing my feedback overly in favor of one person's opinion and makes it harder for me to get a good read on the general impression.

ETA: Actually, I removed the ones from here since you have more going on over on Mesa. I hope you don't mind too terribly. :) Just trying to keep things aw usable for Jenx and me as possible.

  • The only things I might adjust a bit are these:
The rear offside toe seems a bit shorter than the others, which is changing the angle as compared to the pastern. They should be the same angle.
The girth and chest seem a little small to me. I would deepen the girth a bit, as most TBs I've seen have a larger chest area for more lung capacity.

Other than that, I think these are a great representation of TBs, and I especially love the younger look of the foal.

  • I love the idea of a young foal. The front pasterns look too thin and the hooves are not balanced. There is more heel on the offside front.

On the adult, the point of the hock seems to jut out to far, like a capped hock.

  • I think that's pretty accurate! The only thing for me is the line of the chest looks a little off. But otherwise it looks very like the silhouette of my OTTB!
  • I would agree with deeper girth and more tucked up towards the flank but more tucked up towards the flank might create the look of a deeper girth anyways. The foals keep getting cuter and cuter.
  • Gemfish, what do you mean by "a little off". Could you be more specific?
  • I feel like there could be more tuck in the flank and the neck of the foal could be a bit longer. I really like the withers and they feel true to the breed to me

  • Thank you so much everyone for all your feedback and insights. Looking forward to seeing this breed in the game. I think it is going to be a great one.
