They are supposed to. Maybe it's not working, maybe you are looking way too soon. We have no idea right now lol. The image generator has been having a lot of issues and getting a lot of updates this year. Haystack who is the one who works on it has also been super unavailable lately for a number of reasons outside of our control.

He is working like mad this week to do a bunch more updates to improve stability and the queuing system this week. That process will involve making sure images are updated when they should be. So because that work will be looking to fix any issues that might be present we don't really care if images are updating in the background right now. If it's broken they will be getting fixed soon.

It is however way to early. It can take a few days for images to update in the background because they are the lowest possible priority. We run them slowly to prevent issues and reduce the costs.

It is impossible for you to check. Unless you can see the database you can't know the reason.
