Dun Factor Promoter not showing
  • This filly is Dun/ND1 and DFP2/DFP1 but the brindle markings aren't showing and I'm not understanding why.

She was born liver red dun with visible brindle, but when I added a copy of extension the brindle no longer shows. Rerolled her image a few times but still nothing. I then added a copy of agouti and the brindle markings came back, but disappeared again when I removed the agouti.

Her dam also has the same issue. She is also Dun/ND1 with DFP2/DFP1 but never showed the brindle after I added the DFP2 to her and tried rerolling her image a few times as well.

Is this a bug or is this how it's supposed to be?
  • I think the nd1 canceled out the dun . And for the dfp genes they need a copy of dun to show. Try removing the nd1 and see if they show after that.
  • It shows when I remove the nd1, and I figured it would since I have grullos without nd1 that look brindle, but I would like to keep the nd1 because nd1 livers and browns show the brindle just fine and I like how it looks. It's only these nd1 grullos that I'm having problems with. Wanted to try and get confirmation that this is how it's supposed to be before I start trying to avoid nd1 grullos.

I also did a search last night, and I see the brindle if the nd1 grullos have other genes like silver, champagne, pearl, maybe cream, but there are grullos without any of those that I'm personally not seeing any brindle markings on. Is my eyesight just really bad? A few examples:

  • Cream and pearlino makes it hard to see them as well. I love nd1 as well as dfp . Looking through my lines dfp was bold on horses without cream, nd1 and were homozygous or had two different sets of dfp. I have 1 horse that has a noticeable mark on the withers that has nd1 and thats all ive seen in my own lines. Perhaps darkening genes could help? image

I searched others for a similar color and same results. But the ones with silver seem to have a faint line on withers. Also i checked out darkening genes and it seems to not make a big difference. I was hoping to be helpful but im scratching my head now too.

  • I think there actually is a long-standing (I mean YEARS ) bug where nd1 grullos don't show DFP but it never gets mentioned. Next week I am starting up the next big push of work on the the generator so I can look into it then. I had not realized it was still even an issue lol.

  • In general DFP1 is very faint on grullo. If I remember my breeding tests, it's Brown, Bay, Chestnut and then Black with Brown being the most expressive and Black being the least. But this was only done with Dun/DFP1 and not nd1.
  • I breed so much DFP how have I not noticed this issue :))
  • Just to share I made another go at this today. I made zero progress. I understand where the issue is happening but I have not the foggiest idea why. Dun needs a rebuild so maybe when that happens it will fix its self.
