  • Hey there, everyone.

This is AlAsseelStable, now GoldenHeartAcres in honor of my soul dog, Paisley, who was a Golden Retriever. She was a gentle, goofy, sweet, happy girl who loved bread only a little bit more than she loved me. If you’ve ever had a Golden, you know how special they are. They’re fluffy gold bundles of joy and love.

Paisley crossed the rainbow bridge this January after losing control over her hind legs from degenerative myelopathy. Had she still been alive, she would have been 14 years old today, August 28th. But she’s with my dad now, who died 4 years ago today, August 28th.

I’ve woven my sweet girl into this game in many different ways, from my backgrounds with paisley patterns in them to my Herd Helper I had made for her (Law of Conservation of Energy).

I also made a special horse for her…

…and I have 10 eggs to give away to celebrate my Paisleys birthday. You can just comment to enter, and if you’d like to share about your soul-animal, please do. Dogs, cats, rats, horses…any animal you’ve felt that connection with.

Go give your furbabies (or non-furry babies) an extra hug today.

I’ll keep this open until end of the day game time on 9/4.

  • What a lovely tribute! I lost my Heart cat this past summer also. Gizmo, my first Ragdoll, A huge fluffy bundle of snuggles. On his terms only, he would "afk" cuddle with you in what ever room you were sitting down in.. not quite close enough to actually touch but within reach if you stretched your arm out, of course if you touched him he would give you a snotty look and move 2 inches further away lol. He would sleep at our feet every night. and loved to steal tuna or chicken salad from sandwiches. I bought him with the first bonus I had gotten from a new job, we really couldnt afford it, but I had wanted a Ragdoll my entire life. I miss him horribly and still cant look at fluffy kittens without my heart hurting. Someday maybe. He too is all over my account on HaJ, from the "Stable" name, to the color I breed. Id love to have an egg to celebrate your Paisley.

  • I'm sorry for your loss and indeed, understand how present the grief is. I lost my goat ( greatest of all time) cat, Enza in 2018, and I still miss her. She was born under an abandoned car and I trapped her and her sisters when they were already 16 weeks old. I tamed them, and upon giving them up to a rescue, I realized I needed one of those kittens. I went back the next day, and Enza was the one who came forward in the kennel when I enticed them, and she stayed with me for the rest of her life.
She was super smart, and was always inventing tricks to earn treats. We'd be having dinner with guests, and there would be Enza, laying upside down or doing a tightrope walk on a narrow ledge on the hutch. When my husband died, she got even closer, as I sat and painted, she'd pose patiently and as a result, I have dozens of paintings of her. She lived to be 18.
I have other cats, but none of them affected me like her. I felt like she understood me,and I understood her. She's the tortie in the picture

  • Oh what a great tribute, I've been heartbroken when I've lost most of my fur kids along the way, but my extra special one was my first ever dog. A border collie called Smudge. He travelled all over Australia with me, we lived in all sorts of strange places and he was always by my side. He went missing at one point when I was living in a mining camp, I asked everywhere and rang the local ranger, but no-one had seen him. I was absolutely devastated but eventually had to resign myself to the fact he was gone. 6 months later I saw a border collie sitting in the front of a ute at the local pub. I said gosh to my friend he looks like Smudge, I kept going closer with my friend telling me to leave it alone. I opened the car door and saw a scar on the leg that my dog had. I screamed his name and he jumped out at me with lots of hugs and whining. My friend ran into the pub asking whose dog it was. The bloke came out and said it couldn't be my dog, as he'd had him for years. I stood my ground and said this is my dog and I'm not leaving him. It was a huge drama, but eventually the bloke admitted the dog was mine. He seen the dog at the rangers and told the ranger to lie and say he didn't have him. Eventually I got him back and he lived out his life with me, until just a few days shy of him 18th birthday

  • I threw in a few more eggs in case there was a lot of interest, which is totally fine if there isn’t. I’ll send a 2nd egg to those who’ve commented if that’s the case.

  • @annismyrph, Gizmo sounds a lot like me lol. I like to have company but I don’t usually want to be touched. I hear you on having a hard time looking at fluffy kittens. It’s been hard to look at Goldie puppies.

@Fiddler, Enza was very pretty. I love the torties. A friend of mine has a little cat that looks very similar, but she’s a tripod.

@Kintara, that sounds like a very special connection with Smudge. I’m glad you two found your way back to each other. He had a very kind eye and sweet expression to his face.

Thank you all for sharing your stories.

  • @Kintara, do they use Microchips in pets in Aussie? That can usually settle a debate on ownership pretty darn fast, We ve been putting them in our pets as we get them , that way if they get lost/ or taken , its a simple scan thaty every vet , rescue, humane society, and animal shelter has.

  • I have had a few animals that have passed that I had a special bond with. I have owned 3 cats that were personally mine in my life time so far. Two have crossed the rainbow bridge. The first one to pass was my second cat sugar a half siamese cat. I got him for free as an older kitten. He was my first therapy cat that I used for the 4h pet pals. He would play fetch, walk on a leash, and sit and lay on command. You could click your fingers and he would come running. He followed me around everywhere and sleep with me at night. He would wear costumes and loved to dress up. You would put on his favorite blue jacket and he would strut his stuff. A few years later my first cat I owned at the age of 7 passed away. Her name was Nikki or full name nakoma was 19 years old when she passed. She was my rock always there when I needed her. She loved styling your hair with her tongue. She was the saying " one tough old bird", because she got attacked by a dog and had emergency hernia surgery. Then ended up getting congested heart failure at 17 1/2. She lived 1 1/2 years before kidney failure set in and we had to put her to sleep. I was a really hard thing to do. She tried so hard to fight the going to sleep part but I told her "it was okay to go to sleep, Go and join Sugar and the others on the other side of the rainbow bridge. I will see you when it's my time." That was hard to type out I started crying remembering that.

I also had a heart horse named Fancy. She was my everything and my love. She was my first horse I owned. When I was in sixth grade I had to do a music video for music class. I wanted to do something on horseback and my mom saw in the paper an appy mare for sale that one of her friends were selling. She called her friend because she owned a riding stable to see if she had two horses my friend and I could use in our music video. Her friend said yes and fancy was one of those horses. I fell in love at first site. After filming our music video my mom's friend said she was for sale and I was like can we buy her. Mom talked to my dad and he said if I lose interest we would sell her. We'll I never lost interest because I owned her for 10 year before she had to put down. She was 18 when we bought her. So she was 28 when she passed. But that day when we put her down was even harder because we also put our Gelding goer down with her. He was going blind and wasn't handling it well. He wouldn't come through a 10 foot door with out Fancy leading. So we didn't think he would survive without her being his eyes. Losing one pet in a day is hard but losing two is so much harder.

Also I am sorry to hear about your lose. It hurts but at least you can have the memories of the happy times to help heal.

  • @annismyrph Yes they do use microchips, however back then the traceability of them wasn't great, I originally bought him in a different state which made that hard. He also may never have been microchipped, but seeing he was a registered border collie with the main dog registry he probably was. But would just have been in the breeders name.

I got a lovely golden filly from your mare too @GoldenHeartAcres. Thank you!

  • @Kintara, there have been a ton of advances with Microchips now thank god, and while the Orinigal "register" would still be the person who paid to have it implanted, now there are ways to "add" a purchaser or adopter to the info. Probably not in the way back when, but definately in the "now".
