Splitting Color Clubs?
-
Do you guys remember how many horses needed to be in the game for Ammit to create a new color club?
Since DFP came out, I was wanting the rules for the club to be revised. But I remember Ammit saying she wasn't able to code it that way with out breaking the club.
Now that the gene has been out for years, I'm wondering if we can split DFP1 and DFP2 into 2 different clubs.
So DFP1 could be homozygous now, and DFP2 could have at least 1 copy.
I'd still like them to have at least 1 copy of Dun to represent a true breeding program, but I guess that's the thing that can't be programed.
We have 71854 horses in the game with at least 1 copy of DFP2 and 32145 of them without fantasy genes.
And we have 62406 horses with at least 1 copy of DFP1, with 31951 of them not having fantasy genes. Or 11601 horses being DOM for DFP1 and no fantasy genes. -
I tohught when I was asking about splitting the Roans up, Ammit had said at least 30k of each genotype had to be registered? Of Course I could be completely mis remembering it also ><
-
Yeah I asked in chat since I don't think she has seen this post.
@annismyrph ooh if that is the case, Blue Roans could split. There is over 38k non fantasy Blue Roans in the game.Post edited by CheshireFarms at 2024-09-24 15:53:03 -
I have seen the post, I just don't have an answer that will be satisfactory. There is no hard set number and we have so so many clubs at this point that I am not too keen to really add any more.Need to contact me? Read this first.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

Looking over the clubs as they stand now there is none I am particularly interested in splitting. I don't think they need it and I don't want to give out even more GMTs for those colors. There are a few I think I would edit to increase membership though.Need to contact me? Read this first.

Figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. I'm not interested in Era breeding because my primary line is already so far along. I got into the game because of color genetics and breeding, and the color boards are really the only way for me to see how well my line is doing (I guess). I don't know, I'm just trying to keep things interesting for me and something I want to continue working towards without having to create another project line.
-
The thing is ; alot of people aren't "registering" their horses in the clubs, am guessing becuase of the boosting and maxing which puts them out of contention for any type of GMT prize.. I know its really disapointing to me that I am breeding horses at a 13.7 or so PT score and know they wont even make the top 25 of the PT List. Which in turn means they wont score anywhere near the top 25 2nd gen or lined horses points list.. so what's the point? I breed for color also and quite frankly am disapointed at the lack of "awards" i get for the color I am looking to do.. Futurities give me the majority of my GMT's ; but thats becuase I make sure those foals get bred early in the month and get shown twice a week.
-
Yeah I know there are members that have mentioned they don't even bother with registering in the clubs because of all the bootstrapping, boosting, and now maxing.
We have a Level and Grade value already attached to our horses, but I think that works with the show system?
What if we can apply that, or something similar to the clubs as well? -
That is what eras are for. If people don't want to use the clubs available to them I am not sure what I can do. Clubs with out boosting are already provided.
Just making more color clubs can't and won't change that.Post edited by Ammit at 2024-09-25 20:31:59Need to contact me? Read this first.

@Ammit, I started 4 or 5 years ago, thus my "era" Clubs are well beyond the limits for boosting and maxing, again pushing me out of contention for any rewards. As I said its not really worth even registering them into the clubs any more kowing there is no way I am going to get any benefits from it, its more of a why bother? then a gotta do this before the end of the month. I understand why you dont want to create more clubs, but i do think limiting and/ or restricting them more might be better. Plus I joined this game becuase of the genetics, not becuase of the "eras" also becuase there was no way to "win" or "lose" at this game, but I truly feel with all the maxing and the boosting it may have gone over board with the later aspect.

Yes, I understand that.. but my color genetics lines are now in their 10th and 11th generations. Why would I start over again? This is after all a Genetics game.
-
Playing the era game means a lot of us have to start our lines over. And that is something I have 0 interest in, not after everything I invested into my oldest line. Also, after the last 4 months of experiments with Era 17 breeding, I've found it to not be as fulfilling or rewarding for me personally.
-
Color genetics is not a competitive concept. You can't "win" color genetics. You can play the game however you please but I can only give awards to things that are quantifiable. Awards go out for competitive and cooperative play. You can either make your current lines competitive or work on side projects that can be competitive.
Right now anyone with a large enough show herd can invest in boosting or buying boosted gametes from other players. It does not require real money and is available to all players. The players who are doing lots of boosting are doing so because they have spent the time to build profitable show herds and learned how to work the LB system. That is what the bulk of the leaderboards are designed to reward.
If you are not interested in boosting you can make a new line and compete with that in the era clubs. You do not have to "start your lines over", a new side project does not get rid of everything you already created.
If neither of those appeal we have a futurity system where you can work with other players to win GMTs.
I understand that you two don't like any of those options, but unfortunately, those are the options on offer. I don't understand what it is you are looking for out of the leaderboard system, but you are welcome to make suggestions and I am happy to listen.Need to contact me? Read this first.

Is the core problem that you think it is unfair that some players are winning so much more than others? I am trying to understand the root of the issue here.Post edited by Ammit at 2024-09-26 03:56:42Need to contact me? Read this first.

Yes, there is no reason for me to enter my horses, which i have worked long and hard on for Genetics that I like to see, and my barn quite frankly IS big enough to max and boost, but I dont feel that as I am breeding for Color in a Genetics Game, I should have to do to be "competitive" in a Color Leaderboard. Thats IMHO, a cheat to the system, it requires no extra work or length of line to do so.
-
Well, addressing inequality with wins is something I am already looking into in the background. I don't really understand the rest of your statement though. What do you think is cheating?Need to contact me? Read this first.

if it is that someone just doesnt have a high pt horse to compete, i have plenty that i am always willing to share with straws and eggs, and maybe one or two to sell. i also have some really good show ponies that i am willing to part with.
my barns are always open, i have several different gene lines also to choose from -
the only color club that i could see adding is platinum. some of these horses can only enroll in one of the open clubs. it would be nice to have at least two clubs to compete with. or perhaps add platinum to the chinchilla to have a chin/plat club
-
@Ammit, double boosting and maxing is a cheat to the system to get the horses higher PT to top out the Leaderboards.. it doesnt take 4 or 5 years of work to do it, just enough IV's and GMT's... that's the "cheat"
-
I’m eagerly waiting for a platinum club, but I don’t think the numbers are even close yet. I’d definitely prefer not combining it with chinchilla, though. I can’t imagine platinum would be in any way competitive with it just based on the number of horses with chinchilla vs platinum. There’s almost double the amount of chinchilla horses than there are platinum.Thanked by 1Cavalynn

I'm trying to find the words to communicate this without being taken as rude or confrontational. But I think we see color clubs as two different things.
I like to think of them like real life color/breed clubs. So I find it disappointing when we can have horses without Dun in a Dun Factor club. Or non-chestnut horses in Mushroom, ECT.
My post was about seeing if we could add some more realism or diversity into the clubs. But Anni brings up a good point, that has been brought up every time we talk about the clubs. And I can sympathize with her concerns, and the.concerns for players that might not want to speak up about it.
I wish there was some stupidly expensive experiment I could do again to show you the inequity in the color clubs, and how easy it is to take over given enough resources. To show you the possibility that this might benefit the game. So the only thing I can share with you is my personal drive to try and stay at the top of the Dun Factor charts.
You can see my show history, and so can everyone else. I've dominated that club for...I think it's been over a real life year? I don't remember my last numbers. To be fair I should give myself SOME credit for trying to breed the best horses I could, and having probably one of the longest running lines of these genes. They are my pride and joy when it comes to the game. And I have boosted the crap out of some of them to stay on top. And then when maxing came around, I did the same thing with that. And when I learned about the (now old) benefits to Cloning and boosting, I did that to stay on top as well. And now that we can have a 45 day pasture bonus on top of boosting and maxing, I'll use that to try and continue to stay on top. But it's just using these little gimmicks to stay on top. It's something I can afford to do, and would continue to be able to afford to do without any stress. And that just doesn't seem fair to others. It's not something I'm going to stop doing however, because it's the only way I know how to "show" (I guess for lack of words for my feelings here) that I'm doing a good job with my horse breeding. I've been trying to do better, comparing them to more than just their sire/dam. But there wasn't a lot of resources in this game to learn how to do all this when I started, and honestly there still isn't. To do it right, would require me to start all over again. And I just can't afford that, and I'm too stubborn to give up all the progress I feel I've made on my line.Thanked by 1Ammit -
I'll look over the rest of this more carefully later but I will repost this "Well, addressing inequality with wins is something I am already looking into in the background. "
I agree that some accounts are very good at winning lots and lots of GMTs. I have been slowly working on lb tweaks to make this more equitable, but it's a slow process because people get pissed when I edit the LB and it has to be done with care and consideration.
As to the two clubs you mentioned above, there are technical limitations. I actually can't keep non-dun out right now. I tried the query is too complex and it crashes the leaderboard. Also chestnut is not the only color mushroom shows on so it is not a requirement for the club.Post edited by Ammit at 2024-09-26 07:03:33Need to contact me? Read this first.

annismyrph - I understand and empathize with your desire to have your lines and hard work acknowledged but I did not build a game where the primary factor that determines how well you can do is how long you have played. I like that newer members have a shot at winning. I think that is a desirable thing in a game.
I don't agree with you that players like CheshireFarms were cheating when they boosted. It's just that people invest in different things in the game. Those who invested in getting to the very top of the things the LB is tracking are the ones who are rewarded for it. You can choose how to play any way you want but I can't reward every possible way of playing. I am here and listening. Your herd has not been optimized to win the color/era leaderboards, so I can't reward them for being good in that way. Is there a way you would like to see accounts like yours rewarded?Need to contact me? Read this first.

Thank you, all we can do is ask.

I do get where annismyrph is coming from, as I'm in a similar boat where I'm mostly here to breed pretty horses. I also acknowledge that I make it harder on myself by only breeding even lines and avoiding inbreeding for the first 4 generations (if I had the space and GMTs I would avoid it entirely, but it's just not plausible past 4 gens for me). I have long since accepted that I'm not going to get much from LBs, and I know why things are quantified the way they are, that that's the only way to do it.
I understand, and I'm not complaining, but I also understand the "Why bother?" when it comes to entering clubs. I do it for the occasional little surprise when I do have a horse do well, but I do ask mtself that every month. The only club I consistently do okay in is Chimeric, and that's an incidental result from using maxing to save any of my chimeric foals who get gelded or spayed. You also can't clone chimeras, so for that one LB cloning isn't a factor.
But, again, I get why things are the way they are and I know that they're being looked at, so this isn't a complaint. Just an "I get it." -
Nope! Like silver, it interacts with red pigment, which means all red pigment is impacted including on E/- horses.

I completely understand that it sucks when one person gets hundreds of GMTs and the number 10 place only gets like 45, and most players are lucky to get any. I promise I am not at all insensitive to the issue. I am very aware of it and very open to feedback about it. There is the nucleus of a discussion about it on the discord server, but it is something that will have full community engagement on the forums in the future. Don't feel you have to join the discord if that is not your thing.
By the way, the pasture system was designed so you can do that or maxing. You don't need to do both. It was added as an alternative to maxing based on player feedback about it.Need to contact me? Read this first.

Aidendale - you can make chimeras out of clones in the GMT lab though so cloning is still a factor in that club. Regardless, I am glad you found a spot you do well in! I get you though, not everyone is going to be driven for the LB and that is, I think, totally normal and fair. Not everyone who loves playing basketball is going to try and be an NBA/WNBA player.Need to contact me? Read this first.

Like Aidendale, I understand the thoughts behind the "Why bother" feeling some have expressed. I enter all of my horses in as many clubs as possible every month, starting with the more difficult clubs to qualify for, yet I've only won a large number of GMTs once(I happened to have a lot of qualifying primary era horses at the time). Most months, I don't win very much. But my primary goal is to create horses I think are gorgeous. Awards, to me, are a nice little bonus to look for at the end of the season.
I think the 'enter all' option helps tip the scales toward entering horses in clubs, since it drastically shortens the time required to register horses.
Ammit, I understand and appreciate the time and effort you are constantly putting in to improve the game. I think that, above all else, is what keeps so many players here. Even if there are things we see that we might like changed, we know you're usually aware and working on the best solution available.Post edited by MackZ at 2024-09-26 08:02:03 -
Trying to find the words to use to put my thoughts down, so please forgive my rambling (and probable limited understanding of how things work).
So I pulled this Level information form the FAQ's.
Am I correct when I say:
1) The higher the horses PT is, the higher Level they can break into?
2) Not all horses will be able to make it to Grand Prix?
Level 1-- Inhand (Horses are shown in a halter class, not ridden)
Level 2 -- Green under saddle (horses are being ridden, but not jumped)
Level 3 -- Green over fences (horses are now ready to be jumped)
Level 4 -- Training (horses are being schooled to improve the height and complexity of the jumps)
Level 5 -- C Level (more difficult, higher jumps)
Level 6 -- B Level (even higher jumps and more complex patterns of jumps)
Level 7 -- A Level (increasing difficult of jump courses)
Level 8 -- Grand Prix (the highest, most complex jump courses, done by the most talented horses and riders. A horse would have to be competing at this level to qualify for the Olympics in Show Jumping, for instance.)
I should note, I have no idea how Grade works in the game. I couldn't find any information on it in the FAQ's or Wiki, and trying to look at my horses was just confusing.
What about dividing the Color Clubs into Classes?
You could divide based on PT, or Training Level. Maybe PT could be a launching point, and then you can grow based on your training level.
For example: Class 1, Class 2, Class 3.
Maybe each Class has a PT starting range, depending on your horses PT they might start at Class 1, or they might start at Class 3.
If your horse lands in Class 1, it has the opportunity to grow into Class 2 or maybe even Class 3 based on Training Level, or some other non-stagnant metric.
If adding more GMT's to the game is a hard pass, may I suggest:
Trophies, Trophies & HBs, Trophies and GMTs. Think of Class 1 as entry level, and you get your ribbons and trophies. Class 2 you start to win the jack pot, so you get a little money to go with your trophies. And Class 3 is the world sports level, you get all the bling - bling being GMTs.
I think this could open up the Color Clubs to more members, have a wider range of accessibility to people trying to be competitive, doesn't limit the GMT's awarded but also doesn't flood the game with them, still gives some kind of reward for validation/bragging/accomplishment-feels, and offers a new easily visible metric so we can see how our horses are progressing.Post edited by CheshireFarms at 2024-09-26 17:33:24
