What do you do with a Best in Pasture foal that doesnt meet your criterea
-
If s/he is the wrong color or doesnt carry the gene you are breeding for.
Do you Spay/Geld them and keep them for a show horse?
Do you GMT them to fit? At what Generation do you GMT or Not?
Do you toss them in the auction intact? -
Depends on how close, genetically, they are to my breeding goals. If they only need a little editing, I'll fix their genes and keep them intact. Otherwise, I'll comp test them to find a foal of the same gen who's aga or sup, mark that one as such, and speld the one that doesn't fit my line requirements and put them in a show barn.
I never auction lined horses with positive pt scores until they are 10+ and leveled off, and then only if they've leveled off in a bad spot and earning less than 50hbs a day.Post edited by MackZ at 2025-04-06 14:34:54 -
Yup it depends on what I need. Sometimes I do the GMT. In the higher generations pasture the best is sometimes an AGA in comparison, so the whole lot of foals go to the show pen.Thanked by 1annismyrph

If it's superior, I used to GMT to fit the criteria.Thanked by 1annismyrph

I have a lot of horses, so they usually go straight into the auction.
