What are my options for boosting PT?
  • Essentially, I bred a beautiful stud colt that is everything I breed for, won Best Foal, comparison tested as good as the benchmark for his generation, but has a slightly lower pt than I want for that generation. I know I can max and boost, but will either of those increase his pt? And if he won Best Foal with a lower pt than some of his counterparts, does the pt really mean anything.
I love Warmbloods with lots of Sooty and DP. Dark Mahogany Bays, Liver Chestnuts, and Blacks make me super happy. I love horses with color, dfp1, nd1, gray, GP, and KP on the dark base. One day I would like to have a herd of high pt, well papered dark beauties. ID# 257941

  • Boosting is for breeding and has zero impact on PT. There is no competition he can win for "best foal." Are you trying to to say he was labeled best in pasture?

Best in pasture has to do with breed. PT has to do with showing. They are different numbers and PT is not inheritable. Maxing and making a horse perfectly consistent are the only ways to impact PT.

  • Yes sorry he was best in pasture. And thank you for the answer. I thought breeding ability was the only thing affected by boosting. I wasn't sure about maxing and I forgot about being able to make a horse perfectly consistent. I was under the impression that higher pt throws higher pt. Is that not true?

  • No, that is not true. PT is not inheritable. Higher breeding ability horses make higher PT foals. Breeding ability is the only thing that matters for making higher PT foals. PT is irrelevant and not helpful in any way when selecting breeding stock.
