What is this gene/What does it do?
-
So I've been trying to decide what to aim for in my new lines, I'm still not quite sure yet, but I'm thinking greys. Just to have a horse to look at to help me decide more specifics for their coloring other than the grey covering them, I went ahead and looked around and bought this grey from the Foundation Rescue.

AAt I was wondering what this gene does, I think it causes a Wild look or something? When it came out, I wasn't trying to breed it, so I didn't really find out what it does. Any help would be greatly appreciated! :P -
At is brown. It is recessive to A (bay) and A+ (wild bay). A horse with AAt will be bay when E-, but does carry for brown. This mare is an example.

At is dominant to a - so an Ata horse is visibly a brown. Shades will vary based on sooty status:

When Hz AtAt. they look bay.

The wild you mentioned is Dominant over all other genes at the Agouti site. This is an example of a wild bay:

I hope this helps. :-)Post edited by Visions at 2015-07-30 07:45:30Thanked by 1MW Stables -
Thanks, I think I understand it now, I was pretty confused! I don't think I want to use this mare for the lines I'll be starting but it was interesting to learn all of this!Thanked by 1Visions
