Pumpkins

  • I have a question. How would someone know if a mare is a pumpkin? I have a red dun mare with one Sty that looks questionable.
  • There is no such thing as pumpkin. That isn't a horse color.

  • I thought pumpkin was the term that some players here used for mares that had DP but did not have Sty Sty.
  • It was, but that was when the colors were displaying incorrectly, some were far too orange-toned.

Ammit discouraged the use of the word just because it was going to cause confusion like this when the colors were corrected....which they have been. :)

I don't think anyone is using it now - that particular look is long gone.

  • As I understand it, the way to determine if a non-homozygous sooty horse has DP is to color test it to determine its sooty status, then compare its color to other horses with the same base color. A horse that is SS with DP will look the same as one that is SstyS without DP, and a SstyS with DP will look like a SstySsty.
