I had this happen to me, too. Try going to the main page for your horse and click "reroll portrait" underneath your horse's picture. If that doesnt work, try take a couple of tack items off your horse. That usually works for me :)

@chuggers: Go to a horse's Control Panel. At the bottom you will find a link to the Tack Manager. That will take you to the tack store.

On the left is your horse's image.

On the right is where the equipment it has will be listed. Since you haven't bought anything yet, you won't see anything in the list. Click on +Catalog. A new pop-window will appear with the horse's picture and the list of categories of tack, with the stuff for the head listed. There are several categories to explore, including a variety of backgrounds. So have fun. Some of the options are quite inexpensive, others are not, so keep your bank balance in mind when buying.

You can add selections to the list, but you will have to click "Buy" to actually purchase them.

I think there's a bug with the tail bows, so I wouldn't recommend them, and the preview feature isn't always working, I think. I've occasionally had trouble taking purchased tack off as well. Eventually these hitches will be taken care of, but the current priority is the changes to the image editor, bringing the horse pictures up-to-date and making them more life-like.

Does tack help with showing? I keep searching for a game guide here but can't seem to find it.
