How to avoid frame in RL

    Hello all. I am tossing around the idea of breeding my mare Annie next spring. She is a chestnut with some form of Overo (splash, sabino, Dom. White?) and she almost certainly caries Frame. I am looking at Eventer and Show Jumper stallions, various Warmbloods with lots of TB. Unfortunately almost none have any color genetics testing. Obviously I want to avoid any possibility of a lethal foal but I am wondering about things to look for in color that would be indicators of Frame in mostly solid colored horses. I will be getting Annie fully color tested here in a few weeks to confirm the Frame diagnosis.

    The problem with Frame, as I understand it, is that it needs a white pattern to show up. On the old forum, we referred to it as a "Ninja." If the horse does not have one of the dominant whites, sabino, or splash and a fair amount of what, in the game, is recorded as White Factor, Frame will not be evident. In the game, Frame doesn't have much effect on Tobiano; I'm not sure what happens in real life. On a mostly solid colored horse, Frame can be invisible.

    Kinda what I figured. I know on Annie she has tall whites on three of four legs and one solid. I was thinking that if frame expresses this way I would avoid stallions with flashy whites on three legs. I suppose I could ask the breeder of the stallion if they would be willing to test the stallion... would that be reasonable? Would a breeder be willing to do something like that for a high dollar warmblood type stallion? Would it be considered rude to ask them to test? I wouldn't mind paying for it myself but would they consider it out of line?

    I wouldn't think that would be out of line. Just explain the situation. As long as they are reasonable human beings, they'll understand your concerns. :)

    In show dogs, I have offered to pay for said test before I selected a puppy. It was never deemed out of line. My last two pups were acquired based on certain test results that I could go forward with my own breeding program.

    I would think that no reasonable stallion owner would object to the request. It is a 25$ test (according to the UC Davis website) to prevent a lethal genetic disorder. Would you really want to do business with someone who was offended by you wanting to be sure of avoiding the chance of a dead foal?
    Breeding high quality Sheldasen horses in all the fancy colors.

    I don't think most warmbloods carry frame? Thoroughbreds don't as far as I'm aware.
