What makes a hz DP?
-
I've been lucky to breed several livers, and create a few, during my time here... My question now becomes how do I discern whether or not they're homozygous DP? All of them have been homozygous sooty and I've seen a variety of these liver horses ranging from milk chocolate to black in appearance. The black chestnut horses have eluded me so far, I think.
Here's a sampling of my liver horses:

A homozygous DP chestnut will be black chestnut if it has two copies of Sty.

A homozygous DP chestnut will look liver chestnut if it has one copy of Sty.

A homozygous DP chestnut with no Sty will look like a regular StySty chestnut.

It's the same concept when you add in modifiers or dilutions too. In most cases, you have to know what the horse has as far as Sty, either through color testing or based of their parents, to know for sure.Post edited by Raina at 2015-11-13 01:22:26Imation Stud ID# 2609
