Beginners guide to color variations and genetics
-
Here is a link to a great overview of genetics of color that I just found:
http://practicalhorsemanmag.com/article/a_guide_to_equine_color_genetics_and_coat_color_120610-11524
I will be celebrating my one month anniversary on HAJ and found this article to be helpful, although from the forum posts I've read thus far, there are a lot of very knowledgeable people who are part of this game. I'm in awe of you and hope to reach your level someday! -
Actually, that article deals much more with the phenotypes (the outward appearance) of horse colors and common names given to various shades than it does with the genotypes (the actual genes that cause the colors and patterns). In many, many places it is based on outdated or incomplete information. You will get a much better education on horse color genetics here.Thanked by 1Belle Islands
