Random Breeding Questions
-
As breeding season is in full swing, I am curious about a few things.
1. Does it make any difference whether you breed a Jumper to a Hunter or to another Jumper? In other words, will a horse with two Jumper parents or two Hunter parents have an advantage over a horse that has one of each?
2. If a horse has one parent from each training style, which style will be dominant? Will he be a Hunter or a Jumper?
3. Is there any significant difference in showing or breeding ability if a horse has two Sport Pony parents/two Warmblood parents when compared to a horse with one Pony and one Warmblood parent?
4. And, in a Pony/Warmblood mix, how big will the foal be?
I want to give my foals every advantage possible, but am I wasting my time going into this level of detail when choosing a stud or broodmare to breed with one of my horses?
I have been told that I have an annoying habit of over-analyzing things, but please take it as a compliment that I spend so much time thinking about this game. Don't worry--its not an obsession, it's just a fun game! ^:)^"Time is nothing to a cat when he is dancing." Esther AverillThanked by 1Redbud -
I've never taken any notice of the hunter/jumper thing, it could be like the warmblood/pony thing. In that two sport ponies always have a pony foal, and same with warmbloods, but if if you have one parent a pony and one a warmblood then 50/50 chance of either a sport pony or warmblood foalPost edited by Kintara at 2014-05-04 18:48:20Thanked by 1Fir Tree Shadow
