Horses owned by the archive are deceased. They won't leave the archive until they have no descendants, living or archived. I believe you can edit tattoos that are in use now, and since you have to specifically check 'deceased horses' to get them to show up, it shouldn't throw off searching current horses with the new tattoos much.

They shouldn't be coming up on an ordinary search unless you check the box. (I have horses with my tattoos in the archive, and they only pop up when I specifically check that. If your circumstances are different it might be a bug.) You can also specify horses with Whatever Tattoo that are owned by your ID # and they won't appear.

Unfortunately once horses go into the archive you can't modify or edit them in any way. The only way to remove horses from the archive is to get rid of all of their descendants. If you own them all, you could always go through and yum them, but you have to get rid of all of them down to the last yearling or they'll just get added to the archive too.

I doubt I would be yumming the descendants, they are some of my best non boosted lines. One of those mares papered blue and she was a 2nd gen out of a normal DHH create mare. The other mare was a 3rd gen mare that papered blue.

I'll see what happens once the archived horses actually become deceased.
