Is it the stallion?
-
I have a stallion who is an Exceptional Producing Appaloosa and he papered B as a foundation. I have bred him to four different mares and all the foals are spayed or gelded by MA or GA. I thought it was just the first two mares so I bought a couple more and same thing...

Guess its time to geld..
I just used a Top Notch Producer mare and same thing, a geld. I thought Exceptional Producers would produce mostly intacts, this is his 5th foal who has been altered.Post edited by Ashadowlegacy at 2015-12-08 17:47:16HJ1 ID #: 211869

Absolutely not.
You know the quality of the stallion. He's B papered, an exceptional producing foundation horse. That's a known quantity, and for a foundation, it's pretty good. (C is 'normal.')
More likely the problem is that the mares are lower quality. Regular create mares (the non-exceptional kind) can only ever be the equivalent of Cs, so he's basically a whole generation of breeding better than they are. Even the Top Notch Producer is only a C-equivalent. It's easier to get intact babies when you're breeding like quality to like quality.
But then there's also a healthy random element to breeding. I have *Gold-papered mares who have given me nothing but spayed/gelded foals, and that's okay. Show horses are important. :DThanked by 1Abbey98 -
Okay, so I suppose I'll have to look for an exceptional producing mareHJ1 ID #: 211869

You *can* get very good babies from an Exceptional stallion and a regular create mare, or Top Notch, or another level of quality. You are just statistically more likely to get more intact babies if you breed similar levels of quality to each other.

I see, I suppose I'll have to keep a look out for Exceptional Producing Appaloosa mares now :D
Should I keep creating
My mind is saying yes
My account balance is saying no XD
