DP & SS help
-
Is there any heard helper that has a higher likelihood of having DP? My SS wants some new DP so I am also looking for any liver horses that are available for sale. Thank you very much!
-
I'm not sure about a "higher" likelihood, but if you use a Dark Chestnut HH, it will already have homozygous sooty, so it will only take one copy of DP to create a liver chestnut.
Are you interested in lined horses for this or foundation?Post edited by SandyCreekAcres at 2015-12-14 10:20:15Thanked by 1amber -
I have some DP foundation stallions that I can offer straws from.
-
I have some 2nd gen liver warmbloods that I could part with, if 2nd gen is ok!
-
I have these boys that I can send you straws from (both foundation and lined!): http://www.huntandjump.com/adv_search.php?status=any&ageg=&agel=&agee=&erag=&eral=&erae=&f_basic=none&f_adv=none&tattoo=&f_limit=25&stallion=1&name=dp&name_lm=like&color=&color_lm=like&bty=1&lined=lined&foundation=1&sire=&dam=&barn=&owner=160524&breeder=&e1=&e2=&a1=&a4=&a2=&a3=&f1=&f2=&p1=&p2=&s1=&s2=&s3=&c1=&c2=&c3=&d1=&d2=&g1=&g2=&ch1=&ch2=&z1=&z2=&sa2=&sa1=&kit1=&kit2=&kit3=&kit4=&kit5=&kit6=&kit7=&kit8=&kit9=&kit10=&sp1=&sp2=&sp3=&pax31=&pax32=&rb1=&rb2=&o1=&o2=&l1=&l2=&ice1=&icei=&ice2=&ice3=&ice4=&ice5=&ice6=&ice7=&ice8=&brindle1=1&brindle2=1&wf1=1&wf2=1&wf3=1&wf4=1&wf5=1&wf6=1
There are also a few boy stallys for sale in that search as well. As far as mares go I don't have any for sale but if your SS is able to I can make some embryo's from some mares with any of my boys and send them over!HJ1 160524

Think! - It's not illegal yet. -
I appreciate the offer, but it doesn't fit the other criteria my SS requested. IF I post them it's a giveaway. Thank you for the offer
-
Can someone please remind me what DP is? My SS also likes DP. How does it differ from liver chestnut? And is liver chestnut just ee with one or two copies of sooty? Thanks.
-
Liver mean it has at least one copy of DP I think.. homo sty and at least one Dp... don't quote me on that

This topic from another member questioning DP is very helpful to read if you want more information about DP: http://www.huntandjump.com/forum/discussion/comment/15485#Comment_15485
Especially Stone Silo's post that explaines it with pictures is great for explanation :)
In short: DP is short for Dense Pheomelanin. It makes the coat of horses darker. It is best visible on chestnuts, but it can also be visible on bays/browns. It is much harder to tell however if bays/browns have it in my opinion. Whenever a chestnut horse is stysty and has at least one DP the color test will call it a liver chestnut. When a chestnut horse has one sty and is homozygous DP it will be also called a liver chestnut. Knowing if your horse has DP thus is much easier with chestnuts than with bays/browns, but that doesn't mean they can't have DP! (Blacks can carry DP as well ofcourse but that won't be visible at all). A horse can also have DP without any sty genes, it won't be called a liver chestnut with the color test but it still can be a DP horse! The coat from the DP horse without any sty will then look the same as a horse that just has one copy of sty.
So: DP is the gene that makes the horse's red coat darker. In combination with sty it makes the coat even darker, which results in so called liver chestnuts, but also darker bays/browns.
For more information read the topic I posted at the beginning of this post :pPost edited by MasterStablesMS at 2015-12-16 02:45:00HJ1 160524
