I bought an intact candy pony last night. I was so excited to find her. I snatched her off the public sales like that. But after I bought her, about 2 min later, she lost her stripes and became a dark buckskin. WHAT!!! After paying what I WOULD NOT have paid for a regular horse like she is now, she became normal. I am so frustrated. How did this happen.

Unfortunately, candy ponies will lose their candy stripes when their images are updated/rerolled, if they have already been turned in for GMTs. The sea ponies do the same thing.

A candy pony that had NOT been turned in for GMTs yet is worth... 10 GMTs. 1 GMT runs about 20 IVs, and 1 IV runs you 12,500 hbs, so the actual value of one that hasn't been turned in yet is something like 2.5 million HBs.

On the up side, the horse you bought is an exceptionally perfect breeder and so 7500 hbs is a fair price. If you don't want to keep her, put her back up for that much. No real loss on anyone's part.

I didn't reroll her portrait, and I didn't turn her in for GMT. I simply bought her for "eye candy"
I will be keeping her, but that was a disappointing experience.
Is it possible her previous owner rerolled her, but it was delayed?

If you bought her tack that would automatically reroll her.

That's possible. Did you put the tack on her or change her background? I believe that can also cause the image to update as well.

Buying tack will refresh (not reroll) a horses image.
