First Horse Selection
-
Hello,
I am new to the game. Upon browsing for my first horse, I noticed a few things that I have questions about.
* What does it mean if a horse tests showable or C?
*Does it matter what a horse's profit/loss is?
*Does it really matter if a horse coat color is unknown?
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
While I know you are unable to tell me which type of horse to get, tips are greatly appreciated :) -
I horse that has tested showable means that they are unfit for breeding, but should/could be kept for breeding. C papered is the base line for normal create horses most often. I have seen lined horses paper C but they are not good quality.
Profit: To me I do not look at profit much. Unless the loss is lower then the amount of points the horse has total.
Unknown Horse color: No it does not matter. It will be a little harder to search certain horses. I only color test horses I plan to GMT or have no idea what the horse is caring for genes.
I have been told with to start with simple C papered foundations. You can clearly see quality as it rises. They are the easiest to get a hold of and they come in lots of colors, they also cost the least. I hope this helps some. :) -
@ZTShowTeam What colors or patterns are you looking for? I can help you get started on the right track. If you wish.

@Abbey98 I am looking for anything really. I have no specific type that I'm looking for

The foundation rescue is a great place to start. Horses are either $2500 or $2750 and all are guaranteed to pass testing. http://www.huntandjump.com/adv_search.php?status=sale&ageg=&agel=&agee=&erag=&eral=&erae=&f_basic=none&f_adv=none&tattoo=&f_limit=25&stallion=1&mare=1&name=&name_lm=not+like&color=&color_lm=not+like&bty=1&foundation=1&sire=&dam=&barn=&owner=13&breeder=&e1=&e2=&a1=&a4=&a2=&a3=&f1=&f2=&p1=&p2=&s1=&s2=&s3=&c1=&c2=&c3=&d1=&d2=&g1=&g2=&ch1=&ch2=&z1=&z2=&sa2=&sa1=&kit1=&kit2=&kit3=&kit4=&kit5=&kit6=&kit7=&kit8=&kit9=&kit10=&sp1=&sp2=&sp3=&pax31=&pax32=&rb1=&rb2=&o1=&o2=&l1=&l2=&ice1=&icei=&ice2=&ice3=&ice4=&ice5=&ice6=&ice7=&ice8=&brindle1=1&brindle2=1&wf1=1&wf2=1&wf3=1&wf4=1&wf5=1&wf6=1

One of the best places to get starting horses is to go to the Search Horses page and enter 13 in the slot for "Owner." This is the Foundation Rescue. All the horses there are perfect foundations. This means they are the best at both breeding and showing that foundation horses can be. They are also perfectly consistent, meaning that they add three points to their show score every time they train and they will have the same score both times they are shown in a week.
For mares, you might want to restrict their ages to between 3 and, oh, 10. Otherwise the number of horses will be overwhelming. The auction ran yesterday, so you might even find some interesting colors and patterns. Many of the horses will be chestnut or bay, but even these common colors will be good horses to start out on, while you make up your mind what direction you want to go in.Thanked by 1Abbey98 -
You probably also want to stick to mostly mares, since there will be a large number of stallions for cheap public breeding in January. Quite a few of us will put our boys up for 1hb each, which means you'll only have to pay the 1000hb vet fees and won't have to make room in your barn for studs yet. :)
