No Testing question

  • I've been using that option to turn off testing for my young mares so I wouldn't see them on the color testing drop down menu. If the testing is off for them, would that prevent them from getting papered in the future?
  • Never tried it, but if they fail to appear on the list after having three foals, you can always just turn it back on by hitting the same button that turned it off. :)
  • I hope they do show on the mare papering list because right now there's no way to keep track of how many foals a mare has had. Herd Download used to do that, but not anymore.
  • It says right on their page how many foals they have

  • Well let me rephrase that - there's no easy way to keep track. I would have to look at every mare. This is one of those times I really miss the old herd download. I don't use that feature anymore.
  • Honestly, I wouldn't turn off testing on mares anyway - I always want a pedigree color tested, so if they produce any keeper foals, I'm going to end up fully testing them.
  • Since having the AFPT available on the Herd Download was causing the server to crash frequently enough that Ammit had to reprogram the search from scratch not very long ago, even though it takes longer to check on that info for a group of horses now the pain is worth it, I think. The new dynamic image generator causes enough server strain as it is, without restoring a crash-inducing procedure elsewhere. At least in my humble opinion.

Perhaps you could create your own document(s) to keep track of it in groups, and update the info there at the end of each breeding season, or when you're done breeding that line. I know that would be rather time consuming, but if you make this kind of collection for certain groups of mares in lines you want to concentrate on, rather than for every mare and stallion, it might be possible. It would be less time consuming than checking several times a season.

  • I don't have the funds to color test every keeper foal. I do check for several key genes I want to see in my lines, but that is about it.
