What's up with these colors?
  • I just bred some Palomino Splashes to my XP Appaloosa Stallion, I got this weird funky looking colt. Color tested him and he came back as Chestnut Splash Appaloosa, but he has a yellow looking mane and tail?

  • He has dense pigmentation - note how dark his body is. DP darkens up the color, which is why the mane and tail are a deeper gold than the usual flaxen.

He'll be useful for producing liver chestnuts if you want them. :)
  • Neat! I have never seen one like him before, guess I'll keep him around. Thank you :)

  • He looks really cool! :D
  • I have a question about silver and DP. I have this mare:

Her DHH tattoo name is Silver Brown, but really it's silver bay with homozygous sooty. I have some silver bay horses and their manes and tails aren't so dark grey. Has she DP? I keep staring at her and she hasn't dapples.

  • I think that's the hom sooty at work.
  • Azadeh, here are some comparison pictures.

She has silver, dun, appy and is bay/brown

He is a Silver Bay Roan Dun Rabicano - but he has the brown gene.

She has silver, dun, splash and is bay/brown.

Their sire is homo for DP, so that's how I know.
